"Normally there's an agreed upon start date for every sport, every season," Emmert told ESPN, "but under these circumstances, now that's all been derailed by the pandemic. It won't be the conferences that can do that, either. It will be the local and state health officials that say whether or not you can open and play football with fans.

"We already saw the Oregon governor offering her views on what's likely to happen in September. The Pac-12 can say, 'Gee, we'd all like to open up on this date,' but whether or not you can is going to be ultimately up to the state and local health officials and the campus itself making a decision whether or not they want to go forward."

Kind of sounds like now there won’t be ANY college classes being attended in person this coming year in California. It’s going to be an interesting football and probably basketball season in a few areas...but I think most states will have sports in some fashion.

This whole thing is a mess.

"Hello, I'm Mark Emmert. As most of you know, I've never had a set of balls. But I'm here to announce today that I'm also dickless. I serve no purpose. I'm just here to suck oxygen out of the room. Thank you, have a nice day."

Unc-cheat revealed it to be so.

Going to be a big ole free-for-all boys... What MU needs to figure out is how to benefit from there being basically no rules at this point.

Want to start practice on time and the state says its okay? – Do it
Want to play all 12 scheduled games because all of our opponents are available? – Do it
Want to get rid of any games? – Do it and blame it on COVID
Want to break contracts and try to schedule Ohio State? (Since Oregon is probably not going to play football) – Cool

Right now the fall sports season is a total clusterf---... Lets get creative and see how we can make lemonade out of other states/schools lemons.

Only the CSU system has announced this. UC and Private schools are still on schedule to open. Only school it affects Football wise is Fresno St, but they are still talking about playing although students will not be around.

A free-for-all is correct.

I've been listening to Bill King all morning and he's talking about the SEC programs poaching the top PAC12 players. Also discussing about this being the perfect opportunity for the Big12 to steal USC, Oregon, Washington, & UCLA to get to 14 teams.

This is college sports. No leadership, no rules, no organization. Just rape and pillage whatever you can.

I was listening to one of the talking head shows this morning... Basically they proposed if some states aren't going to let schools play (Namely Oregon, Washington, California) then all the other power brokers should do everything they can to kill off the PAC 12... The Big 12 could take Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah. Teams with future scheduling agreements with CA, OR, WA schools could void those contracts and find replacements, etc.

The thought was essentially, kill off the PAC 12 and the P4 makes more money than the P5. The pie is the same size, four slices would be bigger than five.

Sounds like a good idea, but we all know it wouldn't end there. Next year the CA, OR, WA schools would just poach Boise State, Air Force, San Diego State and UNLV and the league the would end up suffering is the Mountain West.

If the Big12 expands, they're not taking the puny programs. If they're going to cut their pie into more slices, they're going to make sure the new programs add to the size of the pie--namely, USC, UCLA (basketball), Washington, and Oregon. What would be left of the PAC12 would be so insignificant (Cal, Stanford, WASU, Oregon St, the Arizona's, etc.), they'd just try getting into the MW.

Which, again, just shows how ridiculous this whole thing is because the schools who are making the PAC12 seem unstable (due to state governments), would actually benefit from the PAC12 being plucked.

But this isn't a state government issue. This is a lack of institutional control by the NCAA as a whole. This would be like California not allowing the NFL to play home games and the Dallas Cowboys raiding the rosters and coaching staffs of the last two NFC Champions. That's laughable because there are rules in place against it. Not so in college.

I would put getting another money game signed with Notre Dame at the top of the wish list.

Second, I would try to get a series signed with BYU.

Both of those schools could be looking for games if P-5 conferences go to a condensed schedule, or one where they only play conference mates.

After 99 I think BYU swore to never play us again

Nobody that has ND on the schedule is going to not play them.

Looks like some changes are starting to take shape. Possibly a regular season and no bowl season?

Makes about as much since and using a condom with a hole in it.

So? You can't get the virus from Aug to Nov, but can from Nov - until the Spring Semester. Or are they not having a spring semester? The U's are concerned when students go home for T-Giving and bringing it back on campus. Newsflash - Students go home all the time on random weekends. Would love to see the logic behind this.

Stanford and USC if the state of California says no to fall college sports.

This is going to be fun. Word is Newsom may cancel fall sports for all colleges in California. I'm hearing it going to happen by the end of June.

My Opinion: This will have NOTHING to do with the virus. Everything to do with the Fair Play to Pay Act. Remember the state bill he signed to start
paying student athletes that the NCAA laughed at? This is Newsom's opportunity to change policy by taking his toys and going home. Using the virus as an excuse.

When there is no excuse not to have College Sports and On-Campus events. Three weeks ago the Gov. paved the way for HS students to start the new year in July (two months) sooner then usual to make up for the lost classes. So HS students cannot get the virus, but college students can!

I don't feel sorry for schools in the PAC. When you elect the moron polticians that run your state and who are playing polticis with the virus like they are then screw them. The rest of the country is going to move on. Oregon's shut down was just ruled unconstitutional.

Why would Washington, Oregon, and USC want to leave the Pac-12 to be governed by a bunch of tobacco chewing ranchers from Oklahoma and Texas?
They bring lots of money, at least those schools do, but they would have no say or power in a conference that already fell apart because its top school, Texas, was being an insufferable POS in terms of TV and revenue sharing.
Its 2nd in command, Oklahoma, "was within hours" of leaving until things settled down.

Geographically, thats not a particularly favorable element of travel for the newer members.

Also, while the Pac-12 is considerably weak in football, they seem to pride themselves in Olympic sports. They dominate that category. Its also the conference with the most team titles and that seems to mean something...to me, it means while football is very important to that conference, it isn't everything. The same isn't easily said for the Big 12.

Texas and OU should go the Notre Dame route, where they are Independent by title but play 5 games with an associated conference to allow them a CFP bid, unless it grants exceptions for true independents (and it may, since Texas and OU have considerable influence, but not yet). In that case, stay with the Big 12...so you keep your rivalries...Texas Tech, Baylor, OSU, and of course the Red River Shootout. You can then add Texas A&M or Notre Dame or Nebraska, etc.
Those two could make the pie huge with each game being a solid marquee opponent and sharing it with someone who only adds to it.

I agree with the rest that the NCAA is laughably terrible.
