Any recommendations on where to stay for the ND game? Thought we would drive most, if not all the way after work on Friday and return Sunday.

We are staying in LaPorte Indiana. It’s west of South Bend. We are going to the Reds/Cubs game also. Looks like west of South Bend may be cheaper. Chesterton, is close to Indiana Dunes National Park. Michigan City, Merrillville, Indiana , there seems to be reasonable rates. Elkhart would also work, it’s to the east of South Bend more or less.

We are staying at the Microtel in South Bend. While the current rate is $327 per night (I think it was north of $400 a few weeks ago), they are still only charging the regular 15,000 points for a free night. If you do not have points with Wyndham, you can purchase 15,000 for $195.

Staying in my teardrop camper in Granger at the Elkhart RV campground. 80 bucks a night.

Staying at the Quality Inn, South Bend... When I booked rooms a month ago it was the cheapest place that didn't look like it belonged on an episode of Cops (was still $200, per room per night).

I have been going to South Bend for over 50 years now. One of the places to stay, that nobody ever thinks of is Niles, Michigan. It's only about ten miles from South Bend, and on the main road. Several hotels there, and not as expensive.

Be aware of the deer along 31. We have a production facility close to Kokomo (Tipton, In) and I make that drive down 31 and back once a month. Hopefully you can avoid driving at night, or close to night.
Thanks for the heads up, we're arriving in South Bend around 10:00AM to soak some of the campus sights and eat lunch a ND hangout! I figure the game won't be over until 5:30 PM and we'll just go back to the hotel as it will be a long day for old guys! But if we win all bets are off, we'll hit the bars and deer be damned!

Cheaper hotel right now on Priceline in Benton Harbor MI. Got a Best Western last minute for $93 per night. Seems nice. Better than paying over $200 per night and still close to South Bend. Only like 40 min drive.

If you're staying in Benton Harbor, may I suggest you increase your life insurance policy prior to arriving?

Seemed nice. Decent ratings. I sleep there is the way I look at it. Not worth paying out $300 per night or more.

We're doing the same thing

We are staying in an Air BB about 30 minutes out. Great little 2 bedroom house for $150 a night.

I lived in South Bend for 10 years and there's no doubt that all hoteliers there know how to maximize their profits during Notre Dame weekends. There are decent alternatives to being pillaged by these prices - - up in Michigan (only a few minutes away) in Niles, Dowagiac, St. Joseph and New Buffalo aren't too far. West or East of South Bend in Indiana are Elkhart, LaPorte, Michigan City and Chesterton - all within an hour. We are staying on 931 in Roseland that's walkable to the campus and stadium (we got a decent deal many months ago, but it's still a bit of a rip-off).
