RALEIGH, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - Pornography site Pornhub announced that they will be blocking their site to users in North Carolina just days before a new law in the state takes effect.

Under the new law, websites that publish material considered harmful to minors will be required to verify that users are 18 years or older.

Aylo, the parent company of Pornhub, released the following statement regarding the decision:

“Aylo has publicly supported age verification of users for years, but we believe that any law to this effect must preserve user safety and privacy, and must effectively protect children from accessing content intended for adults.
Unfortunately, the way many jurisdictions worldwide have chosen to implement age verification is ineffective, haphazard, and dangerous. Any regulations that require hundreds of thousands of adult sites to collect significant amounts of highly sensitive personal information is putting user safety in jeopardy. Moreover, as experience has demonstrated, unless properly enforced, users will simply access non-compliant sites or find other methods of evading these laws.
This is not speculation. We have seen how this scenario plays out in the United States. In Louisiana last January, Pornhub was one of the few sites to comply with the new law. Since then, our traffic in Louisiana dropped approximately 80 percent. These people did not stop looking for porn. They just migrated to darker corners of the internet that don’t ask users to verify age, that don’t follow the law, that don’t take user safety seriously, and that often don’t even moderate content. In practice, the laws have just made the internet more dangerous for adults and children.
The only solution that makes the internet safer, preserves user privacy and stands to prevent children from accessing adult content is performing age verification at the source: on the device. The technology to accomplish this exists today. What is required is the political and social will to make it happen. We are eager to be part of this solution and are happy to collaborate with government, civil society and tech partners to arrive at an effective device-based age verification solution.
In addition, many devices already offer free and easy-to-use parental control features that can prevent children from accessing adult content without risking the disclosure of sensitive user data.
The safety of our users is our number one concern. We will always comply with the law, but we hope that governments around the world will implement laws that actually protect the safety and security of users.”

Officials explained that companies will be able to use commercially available databases to verify that users are old enough to access their content. The new law will take effect starting January 1st.

4th 5th whatever grade you said you let your kids watch porn.
My kids aren’t even in 3rd grade yet and I don’t and won’t “let” them watch porn.

But I also won’t ignore the reality that they will be exposed to it at some point, and waiting till after that point to address it causes problems.

Your entire argument was that you'd let your 9 year old watch porn because they would be exposed to it.

I have never, in my life, made that argument. That’s an offensive fabrication.
Edit: we all like to **** around but seriously saying that I said I would show any 9 year old porn is beyond the pale.

It’s a noble goal but yeah normalizing sending your ID in to access a website, any website, probably isn’t the direction we want the internet to go.
Go create a gub account to access your IRS info. We're already there.

HH is definitely a fruit cake, but I don’t recall they/them/zie ever making the argument for kids watching porn.

Remember the good ol days of finding nudie mags in your dads friends basement in their Vietnam stuff box, or stealing the VS or JC Penny swim catalog when it came so you could too?

Yeah I actually just had to last week and it was nuts the stuff it required.

It comes from a conversation a while back about sex ed, where people were saying there’s no reason to give sex ed under a certain age. I brought up the statistic that 15% of kids see porn before they’re 10, and half see it before they’re 13. So it’s better for them to have some sort of age appropriate sex education before they see porn so that the only information they have about sex isn’t coming from porn.

I never said it was a good thing most 12 year olds have seen porn. But it’s reality, and we have to deal with reality on reality’s terms

If you use a VPN they won’t know you’re from NC but there are also plenty of other places to go for that

We weren't talking about 12 year olds. We were talking about 8-10 year olds. You were fine with your kids seeing porn. An 8 year old doesn't know what they are looking at. Educating them about their body is one thing. Three ways and sex toys is something completely different

I absolutely never said that and again, it is offensive and wildly inappropriate for you to make up statements like that and attribute them to me. Find these posts you’re alleging I made and post them or retract that statement.

Or just **** off I don’t really care it’s a message board, but you’re way over the line making shit like that up and saying I said it. That’s past shit talking.

Has anyone experienced a major improvement in performance now that Herdman is no longer sucking up an unhealthy portion of the bandwidth?
