With the departure of Wells I have a bad bad feeling in the pit of my stomach about next year. Am I the only one? I mean this year was a transition year but I thought with the talent that was returning we were good for 8-9 wins minimum. We just graduated something like 24 seniors and are losing players to the portal daily it seems. If we start play next year in the SB it will only add to the challenge. Currently I think we have to pick up a 5th yr QB senior guy quick. IMO as good as the incoming trio may be it is asking plenty to expect one of them to have to start next year. Not ready to throw in the towel but we may be another year before we contend again for anything. Hope i am over reacting - Go Herd!

Wells was inconsistent but as an upperclassmen I was hoping he'd become the player we all wanted him to be. Strong arm that was not always accurate. Like you I have my doubts about the 2022 edition of Herd football and basketball for that matter.

Next year’s script for the excuse makers in the Amen Chorus, seems to be being written as we speak. Major part will be “what if” based Wells and all the rest skipping town; with minor dashes of “we’re young” and “the cupboard was left bare” along with “getting the right type of players in here for our system”. All to the theme that, just as CH Year One was really “year zero” and somehow didn’t count, CH Year Two will really be, I suppose, “CH year zero two point oh” and thus not really count either.

I really don’t know when, to the Amen Chorus, that CH Year One will actually be. My guess is never.

This one is the worst, because Huff kept the same system in place. These players were the players that Cramsey had been recruiting over his 3 years here. There was no "new system" to learn on the offensive side of the ball. So when exactly is Cramsey supposed to have his players? How many QBs, how many WRs, how many TEs, how many OL, and how many RBs does he need to bring in before be suddenly becomes a good OC?

Cramsey has been here under two different HC, had 4 or 5 different QBs, several "promising" WRs, very talented TEs, and two really good RBs and yet the results have never changed. Every QB that has played under him flashed early inspiring hope only to watch them regress.

Unless we're going to pull in a Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes level talent out of the portal nothing is changing. It's going to take transcendent talent on the offensive side of the ball in order to make Cramsey's offense championship level.

Just to be clear, you are OK with making predictions about what may or may not happen in the future, but anything that actually happened in the past (you know, facts that can be proven) is forbidden to be talked about or used to justify current situations?

Oh, herdfella, hadn't you herd? We are not here for a history class! Nothing that has come before has anything to do with the present, and the future is for The Real Sam C. to reveal to us on his schedule.....stay tuned!!

I fear this portal nonsense is going to ruin football for schools our size. It is like starting over every season. Who will be here and who won’t?
It is like Forest Gump and his box of candy.
Its certainly changing the landscape of G5 football fast... Because the portal is wide open whenever, your best players can leave and go to P5 schools if they get the chance, and your low-end guys can leave and head to FCS/other G5's/etc.

As for the original post, next year will be a test of what Huff and Cramsey are/can be as coaches. With a new QB coming in, it would be logical to focus on top-end offensive line play. Both to protect the new qb and to be able to run the ball with our best player (Ali).

I would expect our offense to be very vanilla to start next season. Put a spotlight on running the ball, staying ahead of the chains and limit potential negative plays.

On defense the prospectus is much better for next year... Pretty much the entire front seven come back, including Beauplan, Neal, Porter, Cumberlander, Edwards, Leggs, Croom and Burton. We should be pretty deep up front. The question on D will be in the secondary (isn't it always). Gilmore and Abraham come back, but we need to find at least 2 more capable CB's and 2 new starting safeties.

Didn’t Edward’s enter the portal?
I thought Cumberlander walked on Senior Day?

No, by all means lets discuss CH: Year One. The assreamings, the underperformance, the lack of effort, the lack of heart, the waste of superior talent, all of that.

But again, nothing can be discussed that may have contributed to your opinion's of what played out this season? This season happened in a bubble with no contributing factors from prior time, right?

You are correct about Edwards, I didn't realize he entered the portal... Cumberlander is listed as a junior on ESPN and Herdzone.
Good to know about Cumberlander. I just hope we don't lose any more players, especially Ali.

I think the portal is affecting basketball more than football. Just 1 or 2 talented players can transform a team in the short run....

Ali will be gone after next year. Some P5 school will gobble him up. I hope not but can see it happening.

Not to worry. Like they say up "there," "Trust The Climb." Everything's gonna be all right.

You and I must reference different dictionaries. We were assreamed once (WKU). All others were fairly close.

Dude it's not just us. Just as an example WVU has lost 30 players to the portal. Another example was LSU last night. The broadcaster said between injuries, infractions, opt outs, and the portal LSU only had 38 scholarship players available for last night's bowl game vs KSU.

MTSU was not as close as the final score indicated. We were never in that game.

Sam has trolled this board for a long time. He laughed with his eer buddies about pulling herd fan chains. He was at one time a herd fan but not anymore. He is really mad over his hero doc getting the shoe up his butt and sent back to where old eer castoffs are thrown. Hang in there sam, doc will rescue you.

Not how I recall it. In fact I remember thinking if only McDaniel was arrested a week or two earlier we win that game. We were driving to score and his fumble on ten yard line was returned for a 90 yard TD. That’s a 14, or at least a 10 point swing.

I get it you are upset about everything Marshall right now but stop being a Sam. Marshall played absolutely horrible at MTSU and still had every opportunity to win that game. It’s actually the reason I’m as upset about the season as I am. We had a great opportunity to win every game we played this year (yes even WKU), and we ended up choking away several games. If we were getting blown out left and right I would have been more understanding of the 7-6 record.

I know we played horrible that game. That was my point. We forced ourselves into chasing a bad team the entire game and every time we got within striking distance to turn the tide we'd turn it over or allow them to break off a huge run. Most if that game just felt hapless.

The Houston losses of the past didn't bother me that much because they were clearly just better. Outside of UC in 2018(or was it 17?) we've pretty much shot ourselves in the foot and let championships slip away.

In the 4th quarter MU was outscored horrendously by everyone they lost to.

So yeah, MU was blown out.
