I am curious what some of you think will make next season better? I am not saying it can't but am not sure how it will. Unless we pick up someone in the transfer portel, GW will still be our QB. I really don't see any of the 3 new guys coming in ready to take over. Ali will still be a stud at RB. The transfer from FSU at RB is possibly going to give us the best 1-2 punch ever- time will tell. Our OL will be about the same. With the FSU WR transfer we might be better at that position especially if any of our current guys take it up a notch or two. On the defensive side of the ball I see us being no worse or better. A huge DL would be a great add.
Our OOC schedule is as follows: Norfolk State, Notre Dame, Appy State and Bowling Green . Not sure if we are in C-Usa or the SB yet. A 7 or 8 win season seems about right. I am hoping for the best but outside of cleaning things up some we seem to be 2 years away from a breakthrough season. What say ye HerdNation?

The main question is that we don’t even know who we are playing, or in what conference. If we assume CUSA then we get automatic wins over Bottom 10 FIU, and might be lucky enough to draw Bottom 10 USM as well. We would play in a division that only has one other team with a winning record this year. So the record might be significantly better, without any real improvement. Notre Dame is a loss.

If its the SBC, then it gets harder. ASU, CCU, and GA St. are a level above us. You would have to think JMU, in some sort of transition year, would just be outmanned, but who knows. Hopefully we would miss Louisiana in the west in Year One.

If I had to pick a number, considering all of the unknowns, I would say CUSA: 8-4, 2nd place in CUSA-E, lose pre-Christmas bowl; SBC 6-6, 4th place in SBC-E, lose pre-Christmas bowl.

No real evidence right now to say that some “breakthrough” season is coming, just blind faith in a crew that has so far grossly underachieved.

Along with all the unknowns Sam just pointed out, we have to assume the current assistant coaches will all be back as well. That means another year of Cramsey offense.

The biggest factor in our success could be other teams regressing... WKU won't be as good, we shouldn't have to play UAB in the regular season, App State will be down next year according to their board.

If we stay in CUSA we can out-athlete half the teams we play...

Norfolk State - Win
Notre Dame - Loss
App State - Tossup
Bowling Green - Win
MTSU - Win (I know we always suck against them, but its at home)
WKU - Tossup
FIU - Win
ODU - Win
FAU - Win
Charlotte - Win
(Theoretical) UTSA/UTEP - Loss
(Theoretical) So. Miss/Rice - Win

There is potential for 8-9 wins there... If we move into the Sun Belt, then there is no way to know at this point.

WKU is on the road, but they lose their QB, I believe their stud WR, and most of their offensive coaching staff.

If we stay in CUSA next year, believe the crossover games will (should) be: UAB there, and North Texas at home.

With Cramsey - 7-5, 6-6. Zban becomes the starting QB much to the delight of many on the board.

Until the Herd goes back to cheating, .500 seasons are going to be the norm.
Mops for Props would be minor these days. Schools wouldn't even have to report it.

Did anyone ever hear what kids participated in the mops for props? I don't recall anyone being named specifically

Mops for props would only be cheating if they had to actually work. Otherwise just pay them for their name image or likeness

There's a reason several QBs have been offered and/or signed. However, I think, after watching video on him, the best arm of the bunch is Pete Zamora. This kid and really play can toss it down the field pretty far. If he, like others, doesn't get a chance, the dreaded portal may be waiting.

Yep, when you are only left with one viable QB on the roster, the new staff has to bolster the numbers .

My first reactions to this:
QB decision making ability trumps arm strength
Having receivers with the ability to get separation and limit drops makes every QB better
An O line that can open running lanes and pass block is truly what fuels any offense

With the transfer portal in full swing, it makes it very difficult to predict what the potential is for our team or any of our opponents. Huff could conceivably pick up 3 or 4 guys from the portal who could make a big difference in the team's overall 2022 performance. I agree that QB is an issue. Would like to see a portal guy challenge Grant for the starting job. And the offensive line is still a question mark. Huff will be judged on how well he can fill the holes left by transfers and graduation. We will know a lot more after Spring practice.

Neither Chad nor Cato had the best arms but they were smart and knew what to do with the ball. Payton didn’t have a huge arm either.

9 - 3, and a return to our winning ways in a bowl; finish 10 - 3. We might even be 13-1; the teams we lost to were very heavily 5th and 6th year skill player teams. We do lose a lot on the O line, but we have replacements there waiting their turn.

Wells will be the QB, wide receiving corps will be enhanced and he'll be more effective than he's ever been.

I think we finish out the C-USA year, money is too precious to spend rushing somewhere we're going to be for a long time. Only way we are in SBC is if a lot of things get traded or waived. I'd promise OOC games to C-USA's remaining teams for a couple years in exchange for the departure costs, feel they'r really going to need them.
