We have about the same schedule next year maybe a little weaker. We add Purdue but they are beyond bad. And we add Norfolk St and Charlotte. I say 9-3 or 10-2 with a weaker schedule.

Herdman have you ever said anything positive about Marshall? Maybe our schedule isn't awesome, but every team we played minus 1 this season is a FBS school. All 13 of them hand out 85 scholly's. We were ranked in the Top 25 and should return there when the final poll comes out. Maybe you could root for wvu where they are 18-19 the past 3 years and brag to all your buddies how tough your schedule is.

And you think we would have a better record against WV's schedule this year? Please? It took a miracle to beat UAB and we lost at home to WKU WOW!!!!

So they all give out 85 schollies....whoptido!!!! So if there was 120 teams and lets say we played 111-120 and won them all, what does that prove? That proves we are #110 in my book. You can't run thru the worst teams in football and then pound your chest and say that team is only 9-3 and they are rated higher than us. If that team got beat by the # 5-13-20 teams in the nation for example. We run with the small dogs and that makes us a small dog, PERIOD!!!! Play somebody and prove it or you can't prove how good you are. Marshall is trying to pretend they are good. PROVE IT.

greenherdman is miserable and wants people to join him. He states the same thing over and over and claims others glorify our program by claiming to be big time which I see no one do. He is a broken miserable record.

Dude we aren't Alabama and we'll never be Alabama.. We are conference USA team that's what we are and we proved this season that we are the best team in the conference and that we are one of the top 5 G5 programs.. That's the goal for schools at our size and level

Did i say basketball was good? They are horrible. But DD had to clean up a mess. He will get us there and there is WAY more upside in BB. At least you have a chance to go and play with the big boys, not this pretend we are big because we beat MAC teams. When he gets us there in a few years and we are in the dance will you be happy we are actually playing on an equal basis and wins matter? Or would you rather us accept a CIT bid and play Ohio U in a game that nobody cares about like the Boca Raton bowl? At least you have an upside. Football has nowhere to go but some meaningless bowl against a MAC team or a 8th place big 10 team.

13-1 Conference and bowl champs and will finished ranked in the Top 25 proves to me we are a damn good football team

Greendickman, we are a mid major football team. Football is not set up like basketball. If you don't like the system, which isn't going to change, go buy yourself an Ohio State or Alabama shirt and cheer for them during football season.

How exactly do we lose 2-3 games with the 2015 schedule? With what we have coming back, we'll maybe lose 1 if we have another WKU kind of day. We're still loaded. Maybe even better in some positions.

We lose 11 starters. Including 3 out of 5 on the offensive line and our entire defensive line, one of the best QB's in school history and our best cover corner.

It's too early to make predictions, but until I see some of the replacements on the field I think there is good reason to be cautious about blowing up expectations for next season. There is a big difference between "potential" and "production"... Until we get verified production, all we have is potential in our new guys.

Could we go 11-1 again next year? Sure... Could we go 9-3, absolutely. Too early to make those calls.

I know we lose Mendelson and Jasperse but Selby, Van Horn and the Swede are back up front. That's three starters returning, right? I bet Selby moves to center, Collins slides to guard and either Addison of Jean-Felix plays tackle opposite VH.

On the DL we return Samuel, Dillon and Thompson - all of whom started games this year and plated a ton. Add in Massaquoi and Blake Keller from UCF and I think we should be more than fine.

I'm actually concerned about CB. Corey Tindal struggled mightily late in the year and Keith Baxter looked lost as well. Antavious Rowe, Chocolate Wilson and Donaldven Manning have to step up next year or we could be in trouble.

Trebel if our goal is to be the tallest midget then i guess we won... fortunately most sane people have loftier goals for this program .. perhaps playing in a bigger bowl with a better quality opponent or at least being in the conversation for a new years six bowl. if we continue to pad our stats with meaningless victories against hapless opponents what have we really accomplished?

Um jrod we were in the conversation for the New Years 6 bowl.......It is good to have goals but really. Our budget for sports is something like 26 million. Even wvu now sits at around 77 million and they are far behind schools like Ohio State with over 100 million to work with. It is frustrating the way the football system works but all we can do is be the best at where we are, keep upgrading facilities as we can afford to, and try to enjoy the ride. This may not make us jump for joy but it is a reality we must face.

So I say our goal is to win our conference and try to cement ourselves as one of the top G5 programs year in and year out.. And that's wanting to be the tallest midget.. But, you say "being in the conversation for the new years six bowl" should be our goal.. That's saying the exact same thing I said partner.. If we are consistently among the top G5 programs than we will be in the conversation for the New Years six bowl..

We were in the conversation this year and I expect that to continue.. Eventually we will break through and get the access bowl spot. Not wanting to be the tallest midget at all man.. Just pointing out to Greenherdman that there is nothing wrong with a CUSA team beating CUSA teams and winning it's conference.. Winning the league as a CUSA member shouldn't be diminished just because its CUSA these are peer schools... Also pointing out that we are never going to win a national title at this level that's just how it is set up and Marshall can do nothing about that.. Greenherdman seems to think other wise.

i understand your statement but if we had been undefeated this past year then most likely we would have still played NIU in the boca bowl.. our players and fans deserve better. it is not that common for the collection of talent to converge all at the same time at MU with a very good QB and a terriffic running back.. it is just ashame to have our most complete team ever and still not be seriously considered for the access bowl.. our out of conference scheduling philosophy needs to change.. i am not trying to take anything away from a very good season but to have a SPECIAL season we must play better teams.. we really have no idea how good this team actually is.. i truly believe that if we played arizona or Ole Miss then we would be right there if not win

I am so glad Wolf banned this POS from herdfans. Miserable and stupid is no way to go through life. I recall him saying Herrions team was turning the corner last year midseason

I really believe the season next year hinges on 2 things:

1.QB, if he can manage the game and not turn it over we'll be fine. Hopefully whoever the QB is knows the playbook well enough that we don't need to water it down anymore than we already do.
2. Johnson. If he's healthy we can beat most of the teams on our schedule next year without a QB. He may have a Heisman caliber season next year, if for no other reason than we may not have as good of a QB. Just need the line to be solid

I just don't get when people say "We really don't know how good this team is"

Really so going 13-1 dominating our conference, dominating our bowl game against another conference champion and placing 20 players on post season teams and winning the conference OPOY, DPOY, and COY doesn't prove we are a good team? How about be at the top or near the top in a ton of team stats?

dude this board is MAJOR negative - we went 13-1 and lost on one play in OT by one point at the last second. a split hair from a 14-0 season and you're whining about PURDUE coming to the JOAN? with the way this system is designed...we beat them and run the table or close to it, the Fiesta bowl and CUSA title are the goals IMO....only question is, how good is GUNNER? never seen him, can anyone shed light on this?

and, do you even know why the OOC scheduling is like this? did you know that with the AAC and ACC realignments MH is doing the best he can and honestly doing a stellar job! Louisville and cincy are on the way too - do a bit of research before coming on here with this nonsense after we just had an amazing game, our seniors KILLED it, and we have a pep in our step going into the off season.....

i believe in doc and what he's built - i think he's hitting the road to try to find us a QB now. chill dude, just chill - sometimes i wonder if you guys are even herd fans.........dude, we are fuggin 13-1 and you're complaining about the OOC scheduling.....would you rather have p5 teams you can compete with a and get 1-1s, or have WVU, KSTATE, etc. 3-1s?!? c'mon....geeez.....MH is standing up, picking the teams we can compete with to play into the system today and doing a great job, so just stop it.....GO HERD! SHU/CATO/SWAG - luv you guys, you will ALL be missed dearly and god bless you on your success and bringing my herd football back to where it needs to be and seems will stay, doc is the friggin man too!! to end the season like this and have doc coming back is SUPER, couldn't be happier - not busting balls on other herd fans like some guys do on here, just tired of reading this stuff when are players and coaches worked their @sses off to get us here, show some friggin appreciation dude or don't post!

With the RB's we have coming back to take some pressure off of a new QB, I think we can run the table with either Gunner or Birdsong.

Looking at the schedule, the game that I think is really in question, would be at WKU. Doughty getting a 6th year of eligibility is huge for them. They'll be tough next season....and we have to go there.

i agree herdattack - and had a "herdattack" when i herd that dude got a 6th year....geez, if they had a D - they'd be EXTREMELY tough - i haven't looked into their D and what they'll have, but you make a VERY valid point, that game is gonna be a beast, but like rice this year, we need to have it circled, we owe them one BIG TIME, especially after Doughty showed his @ss in our house after the game....

the thing that got me about that game (and i'm not one to live in the past for the record) was that they went for 2, had we have known they were going to do that, of course, things MAY have been different, but they gambled and won and i give credit where it's due - i mean we were missing our left guard and DJ, but no excuses...we had that 1 "off" day and everyone has one....see VT at ohio state.....

ultimately, i came to peace with it b/c with a 3 point win over la tech and 13-0, we would've still been in the boca bowl (boise would've still gone to the fiesta); now there are (should've could've would've deals here) but, it is what it is, boise had to win out, blah, blah, blah - we could go on all day about it and may have been a little butt hurt, rightfully so - but none the less....kick @ss season.
