Did anyone read/see how the ODUvsWKU game ended? WKU scores with just over a minute left to take a 34-27 lead. LaRussa drives the Monarchs 90+ yards to tie it up. WKU has a 52 yd FG attempt to win it with 2 ticks left. Misses, but ODU penalty gives them an untimed down. This time, FG attempt falls in the end zone. ODU player returns it all the way down to the WKU 17. OT, right? WRONG! Facemask penalty on WKU gets the ball to the 9 (1/2 the distance), resulting in a second untimed down, this time for ODU. FG is good! 37-34 upset. Now Topps fans know what it feels like to lose hope.....

Yeah. I watched that game. What a great ending to a soup sandwich of a game. WKU found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The impressive thing was that ODU actually had a mini-return set up for that. Many teams would put a returner back to catch the short kick, but ODU had actually practiced a return off of it at least once, as they had the contain defender run back on the kick to be a lead blocker.

I'm guessing the majority of teams never practice that situation, or at the very most, do it once in camp. To have a player run back to set up as a lead blocker showed good coaching.
