NHR: CMU beat #22 Okie State on hail mary (vid)

Stupid call by Gundy. Officials now admit they shouldn't have awarded the untamed down to COUNTRY.

Georgia struggled but beat Nicholls State, Clemson eeked by Troy. Gotta love college football!

They won't do this, but this is a case the game result should be changed. The game officially by rule had ended before the play changed the result.

Technically you're right (which I know, is the only kind of right), but that rule needs looked at. Offense shouldn't be able to intentionally commit a penalty to end a game .

I know I'm probably in the minority but inthink the way the refs interpreted the rule is the way it should be written. It's bull shit to be able to just end the game on an intentional grounding loss of down penalty.

Big 12 Replay crew should have caught the MAC officiating mistake and signaled from the booth but they were asleep at the switch. Can you imagine losing a game like that?

Isn't Okie State in that awesome P5 conference , the B12?

Yeah, the same one that Kansas is in; you know, that Kansas who lost to another MAC team, Ohio U. And mighty TCU lost at home to Arkansas; Texas Tech down at half to Arizona State in a titanic "defensive struggle". Except for surprising Texas, and maybe Oklahoma still with egg on its face, the conference overall appears average to mediocre. My gosh, with a so-so non conference schedule and 9 conference games in the mediocre Little 12, if WVU coach Holgorsen doesn't win 10 games or more this season, he should be fired right after the regular season ends!!!!!

It is still VERY early, but as of right now it looks like the Big 2, Little 8 champion will have 2 losses and again be excluded from this ginned up "playoff" nonsense. As it should be. Clearly inferior.

What exactly happened? I saw the replay but im not sure what the bad call was.

Ok st had the ball with just a few seconds left and 4th down. To burn the clock they ran a play where they sent no receivers on a route and the qb grabbed the snap and launched the ball out of bounds. They were given an intentional grounding penalty.

Well, as most FB fans know, a quarter can't end on a penalty. That is true, UNLESS the penalty commited was a loss of down penalty. Intentional grounding is loss of down.

So by rule of the obscure loophole, the game should have been over as CMU shouldn't have been awarded the untimed down. IMO though that rule is pretty dumb, why should a team be able to ground the ball to end a game?

It's so counter intuitive (football wise) that neither the Mac refs , or the Big 12 replay officials (who would have had the authority to overturn the result) noticed.

It sounds to me like they got it right based I your description of what occurred. oky state chose the wrong last play.

No they definately got it wrong. I just don't feel too bad about it I guess because it's a dumb rule.
