Duke and K are the epitome of all that is wrong with college sports today.

No I didn’t attend last night but know some folks who bought last minute at about 3k per. I’ve been down to this game several times, would loved to been there for the weekend but didn’t pull the trigger. Been in Fla for two months so lot of other things going on.
I'm not a Duke fan at all. I'm a Tarheel fan though and through, but Sam, what exactly has Coach K done wrong that makes him so despicable?

Tell me in all honesty that there is a member of the Duke basketball team that any Duke student, alumni or associate would not call the cops on if he walked in their neighborhood.

I'll admit there have been a bunch of punks who have played for duke (Grayson Allen being the latest turdcicle), but I'd figured you'd have more venom toward, say, Calipari.
Who was the opposing player that K berated for taking a shot while up big late in the game only to lie about it when asked? And now for a somewhat personal story… in 1999 duke went to the final four only to lose to UConn. My mom was doing corporate travel at the time and was in charge of travel for the blue devils. It was a charter flight and it was delayed prior to flying to pick up duke. I can’t remember if it was mechanical or weather related but the plane was late picking up the team. Coach K went off on my mom like she had any control over the delay. He was a straight dick to her the entire trip like she had control over the plane.
Duke MBB does have the market cornered on punchable faces with Laettner and Reddick leading the pack, but that sounds a little racist.

Duke is an easy team for people to hate. But they are everything that is right with college bball. I hate Duke, but you have to respect what coach K did for their program.

When I moved to NC I was surprised how few fans Duke basketball have in the overall scheme of things here. far more tar heel and Wolfpack fans. Duke has a far bigger following outside of nc. I go back in forth with coach k. Not sure what to think.
Maybe around Raleigh but outside of that No one in nc like state. And if they do they are either fat or ugly or both. There are more ecu and app st fans
Not a chance a ECU ans app has more fans. Nc state is very popular in the the eastern half.of the state. Not even close. Coach k complained one time about Duke Not being that popular or getting the TV coverage around here.

Why should an ordinary working person be a fan of Duke just because it is nearby? These are spoiled trust fund rich kids (the vast majority not from NC or any other part of the South). Repugnant people. Rich spoiled Yankees who self-selected themselves to the BUSINESS that is this particular private school over the 10000 other options they, and not you, have. This BUSINESS differentiating its product over the others by hiring 12 otherwise untouchables to play basketball before them.
Meanwhile UNC, and NCSU, and all the other fine public schools in NC, as in other states, are doing their job. Helping people get ahead.
Rooting for Duke because its in NC and you live in NC is like liking golf because you live next door to a country club. A country club whose gates you will never be allowed within.

Well, true. Because WVU, long ago, turned its back on its actual job which the same job every other state college in any state has and decided to get in the BUSINESS of being a de facto private school.
WVU’s marketing scheme is, of course, a lot different, but it works for it. Nearly open admissions (which is very rare for colleges, public or private, with P5 sports). Cupcake academics. Continuous drunken party atmosphere. And, most of all, an ultra-low WV taxpayer subsidized out of state tuition.
It works for WVU. Just not for WV.
Every time WVU loses WV wins. Because everything bad for WVU is good for WV and its people, and v-v.
Seriously just stop. UNC markets itself as a "public" school but everyone here knows it operates privately. It's basketball is no different that Duke's. NCSt may take more in state kids, but again, it's not an automatic bid of acceptance. You're an idiot.
When people claim Duke cheats, pays the refs, gets all the calls, etc., I just remind them to look up what their mascot is. It usually shuts them up.

I see no reason to hate on K and Duke. I respect what he has done there. Jealousy is an ugly trait.

NC State has a huge following in the east. UNC obivously is more popular. Duke is popular but more nationally than in NC. No way App State has as many fans as State. ECU has a lot in East but nothing like State overall. ECU doesn't even get that much coverage in Raleigh. I mean State is a ACC school with national basketball titles. Duke has a national following for basketball of course but, they are clearly #3 in the triangle.

Five minutes on the internet shows who is the idiot. UNC, like most public colleges, helps ordinary people achieve. And, yes, no one gets an “automatic bid” to NCSU, which is a STEM focused research university. Many end up at one of the other fine universities in the state system. What a news flash.

The acceptance rate for in-state freshmen at UNC Chapel Hill was 48% in 2020. Like most highly selective schools, a competitive applicant to UNC would need a transcript with mostly As. 92% of UNC first-years in 2020 ranked in the top 20% of their high school graduating classes.
Hardly a school looking to accept ALL North Carolinian students.
I've only been in NC for just over a year...also in the Raleigh area. I have met like 2 Duke fans and I work for Duke. Here in the Raleigh area the pecking order goes like this....
1. NC State
2. UNC
3. ECU
4. App State or Duke...seems to be pretty close. I would argue that it's probably 4a/4b with a slight edge to App State.
Duke is definitely a national brand more than a North Carolina brand.
Exactly. Unc has more fans statewide than State. But State has a large following statewide.
