Like all of these “independent” leagues, it is just a matter time. AFAIK the city is still subsidizing the whole outfit to a great degree. The guy who owns the team also owns Lexington in the same league, some kind of car dealer or something over there. How long will this team last? Attendance hasn’t been great. It’s a good deal and reasonably solid baseball.
Nope.Is this of some importance to us?
It's a hell of a fall from when the Charlies and the International League were in Charleston.Like all of these “independent” leagues, it is just a matter time. As to the Power deal, the contract with the electric company expired. Look for the park to be quietly renamed over the winter. Probably could buy the sponsorship for $500.
Well, no, except that soon to be the park FKA Appalachian Power Park is the only acceptable baseball park within 100 mile radius of campus. The use of the YMCA cannot be a permanent thing, and we have played WVU and Virginia Tech there anyway. When (not if) this Dirty Bird venture goes under, the ability and willingness of the anti-Marshall Charleston city government to fund upkeep of the place just for some Marshall games and the state HS tournament (easily movable to the ‘hole) is questionable. And, of course, the Huntington baseball park is not happening. Is this of some importance to us?
Charleston also had twice the population when they were the Charlies. It's a hell of a fall from when the Charlies and the International League were in Charleston.
Of course. It is a fall in more ways than one.Charleston also had twice the population when they were the Charlies.
