Memphis and Central Florida are so far ahead of any team in C-USA it is not even funny.
A reminder that Sam C is insane in his commentary on the American.

I don't think it's hyperbole to say that either Central Florida or Memphis could win the ACC Coastal
Depends on who is making the pitch..... this is why programs like MU need to hire the right consultant/s....... There is NO one on staff that could get this done, that is for sure. The AAC is miles ahead of CUSA. What's said, if they added two teams, we wouldn't even be in the top 3-4 now.

That said, there are no opportunities currently
I am not sure whether the current leadership at Marshall would even want to go even if they had the chance.Depends on who is making the pitch..... this is why programs like MU need to hire the right consultant/s....... There is NO one on staff that could get this done, that is for sure.

Agreed. Whoever gets either team in the Peach Bowl better be ready for a very tough game.

Reading his stuff is hilarious...
Expansion wise, seems like Army would be the first target, then maybe 2-3 teams from the MWC which they tried to get 3 years ago. Then BYU is always a wildcard.
I've often thought where Marshall would be if we got in CUSA the first time when we would have been football-only and other sports in the Horizon League.
Trust me on this one, and perhaps I'll one day write the real story of what happened with that entire debacle........ only a few people then associated with MU, the MAC, CUSA (Mike Slive) and the Horizon really know how badly MU handled that situation and what was walked away from..........I know, because most of it passed through me...... We would be in a dramatically different place................but we chose not to be, because we had too many people trying to control things instead of letting it come to them.......There were so many meetings and phone calls that have never been talked about.........and again, its why Universities like MU and exemplified by those above us competitively hire consultants to help them through the process....... unfortunately at this level too many administrators feel they always know what is best or at least want everyone to believe they do...... and this isn't limited to Marshall, btw
but that was then and this is now.....
Losing Frost is a bummer for UCF but they’re going to make a splash with his replacement. Word is Kevin Sumlin is their #1 target and things could move quickly.
1963? More like 1863.Well, none of that surprises me considering how the leaders in our state have worked since 1863.
But see that is just your assumption and not based on any real knowledge or conversation with anyone associated with that conference....... most fans can only speculate and then only within the frame of reference that they have
1963? More like 1863.
That is a contract extension at Marshall.Sumlin relies heavily on a good QB. Without that, he is a 5 loss coach.
What I read here is the difference between people who watched football for an afternoon, and people who have watched football for a lifetime. THIS YEAR the AAC had a couple of good teams (and a lot of just godawful ones), THIS YEAR the AAC gets the G5 sop of a big bowl (and will be sent to Atlanta against a nearby SEC team, because, being virtually fan-free, the bowl has to recoup it losses with sales to the other side). IN PREVIOUS YEARS, the MAC and the MWC have come out on top. In future years, CUSA and, yes, the SBC, will (as both would have had the system been as it is today in past times). TWO YEARS ago, UCF was 0-12 and drawing several fans per game.
It runs in cycles. Lacking both booster money and the ability to offer a shot at the national championship, coaches move on. The NCAA shows up.
Don't worry. In Florida, the two main schools will be back soon. The directionals, in both leagues, will fall to earth and even if not, be ignored by an indifferent populace. Nationally, the "little engine that could" story will move, again. One year it will return here.
Unless we bankrupt ourselves chasing where it was. That is a formula for failure.
Of course message board posters have no inside knowledge...duh....but they would be the most logical adds if available....Army/Navy, enough said there.....and they had signed contracts from Boise and SD State, so why wouldn't they try for them again?
I just think the next round of AAC expansion would not be around CUSA......UNLESS UCF/USF move on and FAU/FIU keep improving their programs.
Also, UCF may get absolutely crushed being coachless and playing a P5 school who felt left out of the CFP.
It may end up being Bama...may God be with them.
