nice win for cusa

Great win for MTSU but I wonder how many common basketball fans made the link to CUSA? You know the Selection Committee noticed but I think CUSA is an under the radar conference.

Until we as a conference can build better resumes during the season, nothing is going to change with perception. UAB and UTEP falling down in last few years hasn't helped things.

Feels like on this end of the pool, you have to earn the committee's respect with repeated appearances, like a Gonzaga or a Butler, or you get a low seed and an early exit.

Its the only way to explain a 12 seed being a favorite over a 5 seed. That means 25-28 teams were seeded ahead of MTSU, but below Minnesota, even though Vegas (who doesn't care about conference affiliation) knew the whole time MTSU was at least equivalent to the 5-seed, if not a little bit better.

Well, one other explanation: upsets make headlines, so maybe the committee knowingly underrates strong mid-majors and overrates weak high-majors to manufacture the upsets that draw attention to the tourney.

Either way its not fair to MTSU. They had one smack your head loss, it happens, but it seems to me that beating the snot out of Vandy (tourney team who beat UF 3 times during the season..) should have held more weight. That obviously wasn't the only quality win but it definitely stands out to me. Until teams like UTEP and UAB get back on their feet, every team in the conference is going to have to rely on out of conference scheduling to get them in position for something for at least NIT.

good 12-5 'upset' by middle tennessee over minnesota today......nice win for the conference too

That wasn't an upset in my opinion. I had ESTU as the winner in my bracket picks. I also picked Butler to beat them in the second round but I honestly don't know a thing about Butler. That's one pick I wouldn't mind being wrong on.

The line on the MTSU/Minnesota started out around -1 in favor of Minesota and as pointed out ended up -2 in favor of MTSU. If you want to know how team's really stack up, you get a much clearer picture looking toward Vegas than the selection committee.

As a conference we could do better but Middle Tennessee had a good resume. They beat Ole Miss, they beat Belmont, they absolutely crushed Vanderbilt then the selection committee gives Vanderbilt a #9 seed while MT gets a #12. Its ridiculous.

Butler was obviously a step up beyond mediocre SEC teams, and it showed tonight. Nice effort against Butler, but they are legit.

I don't disagree with that. My point was our own conference needs to step up to help teams that have good years get recognized for it. If you have to play FIU, FAU, UNT, etc they need to have better resumes to help your resume, that's what I am getting at. See my last post on this regarding resume, completely agree
