NIL deal for Ali

I am happy to see this for Ali. It would be interesting to see if this is a 2-3 year lease or if Ali was given the car. I hope these kids understand they have to pay the income taxes...

As I posted elsewhere, perhaps to strongly, I do worry about what these NIL deals mean to folks not getting them; blocking, passing, tackling, etc. for those who do. The issue with NIL is that the monies go to the apparent stars, when so many real stars won't get the deals. What would make a difference is for some kid to say, give me my $500,000, and send part of it to the first 30 or so players on the team because they help me shine.

NIL is pay. A smart coach is going to make sure that the linemen get paid too.

NIL can mean two things.

One, would be that some business, Chris Miller in this case, thinks that getting some player Rasheen Ali in this case to endorse his car lots is actually going to cause more people to buy their next car from him rather than some other car lot. Which is to say actual advertising. An investment in the business, with an expectation that the sales increase will be greater than the cost of the ads.

Two, would be that some booster, Chris Miller in this case, thinks that floating the use of a used car to some player, Rasheen Ali in this case, will make him stay with the team and influence future players to come here. Because he wants the Herd to beat the Trojans and the Monarchs and the Mountaineers and so on next year. With no expectation that the car lots are actually going to make any money off this. Just legalizing (and making tax deductible) what boosters have been doing for their teams for decades.

If one were happening, then, yes, the $$ would go to the stars. A QB or RB has way more influence on potential buyers than an OT or DB. But one isn't what is happening, two is. Its just pay. And just like a GM in the NFL, it is on CH to make sure the cash gets to where it needs to be.

The concern for MU fans, really, should be that our NIL fund seems to be CM willing to loan out a couple of used cars. While I'm sure Miami or Texas or UCLA has a bit more, the real question is how do we stack up against the SBC and against the local G5/bottom tier P5 teams in the 300 mile radius CH says is his recruiting fields?

I dunno, I'm kind of shocked you're wondering about the SBC since you seem more concerned about CUSA and talk down to SBC any chance you get.

I'm sure there are a lot of things you "dunno".

But please, the adults are having a discussion. You have been asked for a link, and, since none exists, lied about it and caught in the lie. Now you are trolling in a thread having nothing to do with it.

Be quiet. The adults are talking.

I agree, but I’m not even sure it really matters for schools our size. I think any player worth a real size-able NIL deal wouldn’t come here unless they have had major issues at a larger school.
I would assume that Chris is just leasing these cars out while they’re here, paying the property taxes, and getting the car back when or if they leave.
I think Ball Toyota has a lot more than Miller, so maybe we need to get the Ball family involved.

My dad grew up in Huntington and he said back in the 50’s the basketball team could walk into a Amsberys and get some suits and other clothes on the house. It’s just sanctioned now.
Nowadays, paying our best players a "wage" to perform a "job"... Such as $100 an hour to sweep out a vehicle showroom, a bar, etc twice a week (whether or not they show up and perform said work) isn't even necessary. We can just straight up pay them and call it an NIL deal.

Good for Ali... Enjoy the car and keep making a bigger name for yourself.

I used to work with a guy that played for Dean Smith. The stories he used to tell me. Fan are pretty blind to what actually has been going on behind the scenes all these years. NIL just legitimized a lot of what was already going on.

I don’t doubt it, never did. I can only imagine why Mayo went to USC and recieved “improper gifts” when they had a mediocre program at the time. I wanna know what the gifts were though. That was around the same time Reggie Bush played for them and then the cards fell. I feel like that was the beginning of a lot of these investigations coming to light.

There are reports that a top HS player has signed a NIL worth over $8MM dollars to include a signing bonus plus $2MM a year for their first three years. Because the player is a minor, name and complete details have not been released, but looks like it may be Arch Manning.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bronny gets a similar deal next year, I think he’s only a junior right now.

but that kind of money is absolutely ridiculous for anyone, much less a kid. Not sure if I’m more jealous of the recipient or the person who has that to throw around….

It is ridiculous money for a 16 or 17 year old... I have no problem with the kids making money on NIL, but I think some sort of "salary cap" is going to have to be put in. What that number is, $1 million a year, $2 million, will be a point of negotiation, but if the NCAA doesn't figure it out there will be a day in the not-so-distant future where some blue blood program is paying a high school kid like Arch Manning $20 million a year, maybe more.

A guy I worked with who played OL for Arkansas readily shared a story about the summer jobs boosters would get them. They never worked but still got paid. This was back in the early 90's.

Just some of the stories about his recruiting visits were insane. These universities basically run escort services with their "campus tour guides". It's not just Colorado and Louisville. Coincidentally I worked with a guy that played for Colorado back in the day and his stories were nuts too.

You know in the movie - Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, the winner of the Texas - A&M game got to head to the Chicken Ranch for some fun. Prolly isn't too far from fact. lol!

One of my friends from high school played at a FCS school in Pennsylvania... He told us on one of his visits he and his dad were greeted by two "cheerleaders" in uniform, given a lengthy tour that didn't amount to any information about the school just a bunch of riding around in a golf cart, flirting and grab-assing, and then one of the girls slipped a card in his pocket with the address to her off campus apartment and a time.

He said when he actually got to campus he realized the two girls who gave the tour were not on the cheerleading team, but were rather "friends of the program." lol

Yup. Not shocked at all. This is an all too familiar story and this was at the FCS level too. I actually pity people that have such a rosy view of college athletics. I would venture it's just as corrupt and as filthy as politics if not more.

I don't know how much you all follow schools outside of Marshall, but over the last several years there have been wives of prominent P5 HCs that have been busted having affairs with the players.

College athletics is an absolute cesspool.

After reading all of these posts I'd say Marshall athletics is screwed as far as getting any real top notch recruits in the future.

Speaking of hot wives, wouldn't mind playing for Andy Enfield at USC

Jealous? Why worry what someone else makes? Oh wait...you're a freeloader wanting someone else to pay your bills. Nevermind.

Lol. Bro. I was ****ing around in that other forum, chill. My wife and I both have good jobs, kids, supporters of BG, season tickets to bball, support local non profits, etc.

Don’t get all worked up about shit you read on a forum. But yes, if you wanna pay my student loans, I’ll take a check or you can Venmo me.

😂 😂 You've got a lot to learn about others "getting worked up" on this forum. We've been around here a long time. Your 51 attempts at "****ing around" are not getting anyone worked up. Dont flatter yourself baller.

There’s a reason recruits were taken to the sleazy DZ parties

What you don’t realize is serious or not, we will pursue you for eternity over it, freeloader. It’s just what Pullman does.

I’m sorry. Where do I put in my apology for erroneous postings. I’ll just leave, these places aren’t for me. Sorry.

Dude, you've got to have a thick skin to make it around here. You wouldn't believe what was said to me, the names I was called, etc. when I first joined a little over a year ago. Stick around, it's somewhat fun after you learn the personalities. Though with so many with names containing "herd" and "green" I still get mixed up who is who...
