We can be that program, you are correct. MTSU nearly established a dynasty. Would take a lot of improvement to get to that level. Memphis was a national power program. Can we be that? gotta recruit with the big boys to get there.
IMO, Kermit Davis recruited a top level CUSA team. Nothing outrageous, but was the best of CUSA. Then he plucked two graduate transfers in back-to-back seasons who sent them over the top. It would be like if we added James Kelly to last year’s team with Penava. We would have been equal to those dominant MTSU teams. It’s not sustainable, but should be the model everyone shoots for.
WHY can Marshall not become a Gonzaga or a Butler or a Nova? It is there for the taking. "Build it (a program)...they will come!"
