Everyone of these politicians "standing up" to Trump and his picks are all acting on behalf of their own agenda. Every. Single. One.
I have ties to a number of folks on different school boards & even strong Trump supporters are worried about her (I'm being kind.) I'm a big fan of a number of his pics but DeVos should have been rewarded with a cushy ambassador's gig, not this. The education system in this country needs a shake up, just not by this woman.

I can answer that, I can answer that! The 1963 Communist Plank had taking over the education in the US as an objective. The Dept of Ed was born about 10 Years later and education in the US has been sliding down hill since. Maybe Devos will screw it so bad everyone will agree to disband it.

Indiana is a "leader" in charter schools and vouchers. The majority of these new schools are crappy. I do know of a couple preachers who now drive an S-class, though; Praise Jesus and your tax dollars!

Allow students to attend different districts. That's the one good thing Indiana has done...Although it gets kind of dirty when it comes to sports.
not sure why you keep bagging on Indiana schools. admittedly i only have "google" to reference, but it seems they are in the top 1/4 of all states when it comes to education.

the public school system has steadily tanked since the Dep't of Education was founded in 1979. But gods forbid we try something different.
Our charter and religious schools are a mess, that's why.

Vouchers pull money away from public schools and give it to for-profit schooks, many of which suck. I am sure the plan was for the corporate and Christian schools to be great and make that "government bad" argument, but when you allow charter schools to not follow standards for teachers, materials, it isn't shocking.
Urban schools have tanked since White Flight. Let's not act like we don't know what's wrong. Black America is all fvxked up.

Why fill it and why no eliminate the department of education. That is a fundamental goal of the republican and libertarian party. Schools should be run at the local level period. There should be no federal oversight. There is no reason for the department. Just like Rick Perry thought about the department of energy. Guess what he is now the secretary.
