Honestly does anyone on here support this lawsuit? Please explain why? Im not even remotely familiar with the intricacies of tax law but it seems to me that the fed govt can make tax policy what ever they want it to be

It was brought to light early on that not being able to write off state taxes unevenly affected the states with higher state taxes....blue states. Still, the GOP included that bias in their tax plan.

Except you can still write off up to 10,000 in state and local taxes. But once again that shouldnt matter one bit because the feds can write the tax code however they want.

Would you want red states to disproportionately pay for the GOP tax cuts?

In the meantime, maybe you should advise the states that are suing that the feds can write tax code however they want. I'm sure they'll listen to you.

10k in state and local taxes ain’t shit guys. For just about any state where you are of middle class means.

Bias? So it’s the GOP’s fault that Democrats in certain states charge their constituents enormous taxes and then rely on Washington to provide them a state specific tax break? That’s rich.

The real bias is in the fact that I haven’t had the same luxury of that tax deduction like NY or California has had for years. Why should they get it and not everybody?

Those "enormous" taxes provide services such as roads, bridges, also elementary, secondary, and higher education, hospitals, police, corrections, etc. You'll notice that rural and poorer areas don't have as much service. I suspect the GOP tax plan was set up to punish the blue states. I suspect I'm right about that.

Would that be because you rent, or don't itemize your taxes?

Why should they get it and not everybody?

Ask 429. He says the feds can do it however they want.

That is why people are moving out of many blue states....taxed into oblivion.

I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with an aging baby boomer population heading south and west for better climates.
That too. but, the young and working people come too. My neighbor on side is from NY. The other from Mass. They only problem is too many damn Yankees. hahahaa

Here in droves. Not all retired. Mostly not retired here.

We've already been over the "here in droves" thing. Do you remember what you learned?

Sure. I know I am in economically booming area. If you need a job come on down. I live it every day. More work than you can shake a stick at. The county I am in has NET Gain of 40 people per day. There are about 159,00o students in our county school system. Building new schools. Come on down You could make a killing. I think Forbes has at #2(last I checked) for business and careers. Another city in the state was also in the Top 10. You can kill it at either place.

That's 14,600 per year. That's 20 x the number of average gains per county for the other 99 counties in your state. Your immediate area is not indicative of the rest of the state.

Maybe not, but you are the first one to try to say that not many people have historically moved to NC and are somehow trying to say the economy is not good here. You are the first person I have ever heard attempt to go there. Maybe you should look around and realize there are now about two generations of your fellow WV'ians here and they are here for a reason.

I hope they win the lawsuit, I live in Connecticut
Why so you can pay them more of your money? I have a customer from NJ. I don't see how anyone could live up there. They are great guys, but when I here what they pay out in taxes it is insane. Throw in shitty weather and no way.

I came here for the money I’m paid and the school systems. Same reason I moved to NY. I had the choice of educating my kids in the Huntington area or move to NY, I went with the obvious choice. And when I was offered 40k more salary to go to CT, I took the money and ran.

Can you explain why you always introduce lies into almost every discussion? I never stated either of the first two points in your first sentence.

i'm conflicted with this. sure, these states' residents are taking a hit from the limit on property tax deduction. on the flip side, they received a larger benefit than residents from states with lower property tax rates when this itemized deduction first came into existence. frankly, I applaud these states for sticking it to their residents via higher property taxes. that's why these states are so much more advanced across the board than states like WV and can afford to take care of and add infrastructure, roads, better school systems, etc. however, these states' decisions to charge higher property taxes shouldn't have a negative affect on the federal budget, and, quite frankly, no matter how you look at it, property tax deductions from all states has a negative affect on the federal budget, no matter how small.

in the end, not much of an argument. was surprised and not a fan of this particular piece of tax reform. I do like the 20% deduction for pass through entities and tax cuts for corps, though. imo, it's a step toward growing the economy.

The average income in NJ, Conn, and Mass is 69,000, 70,000, 72,000, and NC is 46,000.

Those states don't get as much federal money as states with low property taxes and those states subsidize the low tax states.

I think it's honest to question if this was ever a smart thing to be federally deductable. I lean toward it never made sense except for the fact it was a gift back to the states that are "donor states".

But I also agree with EG that this smells of sticking it to some Democratic states. Add in some other screwjobs (the Senate not keeping its promise of funding for the Northeast Corridor comes to mind), and something does stink.

I wasn't lying. That is what you were doing.

You most certainly were lying. You seem to be more and more like cheetos as time passes. You lie, and then lie when you deny it. I never said either of the things you claim I said. That makes it a lie. You lie any time it's convenient for you. Do you enjoy it, or just believe no one else sees that you're lying? I, for one, see it.

so what were you attempting to do? and, what did I lie about?

I've already answered that question once, this is the second time. Don't ask again.

1. that not many people have historically moved to NC
2. trying to say the economy is not good here

You did try to say it and you continue to try to bash the economy here

Due to the increased standard deduction, this issue is a nonstarter for anyone other than high middle and high wage earners.

Meaning this disproportionately impacts the rich (and almost exclusively). This was not a "get back at blue states" thing. Republicans hammered their biggest supporters with this provision. It should've been eliminated entirely, but they decided to protect middle income earners in high tax states.

I don’t know why, but this literally made me laugh out loud while I was driving
Made me laugh too. WTF is he going to do if I ask again? He knows what game he was trying to play the other day in that thread. One of his butt buddies even said something about the hillbilly highway being reversed or going the other way now or something like that. I am not obsessed like he is to go back and look it up.

Even in this thread he takes a dig at NC wages. I threw back cost of living. He ignored that.

If things were so bad here then why the hell do people keep coming here? Many from the northeast. The one problem here now is all the Yankees and they get in power and what to do the same stupid tax crap they did back where they were from.

If things were so great in Jersey(insert other northeast place) then why the hell are you here? Same reason I am, Yankee. So, it is not so great where you are from.

I sure did. That lower cost of living includes lower wages, which was my point in the other thread. It's the same reason companies move to China, lower wages.

Once again, moron, no one said "things were so bad". You just can't stop with the lies.
