Speaking at the Board of Governors meeting this morning acting AD says no decision has been made and that “several” conferences want us? His words. I can’t help but feel now that the Sunbelt may not happen if - as he said, we are exploring options.

C-USA, Sun-Belt, and MAC would be “several”…unless we are including FCS conferences. There’s only 1 option at this point that makes any sense whatsoever.

It's Marshall. I know they want to let Smith make the announcement but nothing would surprise me at this point. It's do obvious the direction we need to take to move forward; unless our finances are in such dire straights that we stay in CUSA or some other league just to keep the D1 athletics label and not do much else. I think its SB time, but won't feel better until we announce it officially.

Agree. Let’s hope it is Brad Smith and he makes the announcement.

We are going to screw this up. We never miss an opportunity to miss and opportunity.

“Several”. OK.

CUSA 4.0 - Leftover teams and new pull ups from I-AA (and it won’t even have soccer, as FIU is the only soccer school remaining)

MAC - No. The ESPN $$ run out in just 3 years. Leaving it fanless and rusting.

AAC 2.0 - The Spamies who monitor this, their “non-rival’s” board will scream, but Big 12 boards from Texas are saying the B12 needs at least 2 and maybe as many as 4, more AAC members to get legitimate TV money, as the Big 2 were 60% of the value in that league. Leaving the AAC needing whatever. Need to stay far away from that snake oil salesman and what would be a pointless collection of leftover programs.

MWC - Ain’t happening.

They are blowing it right before our eyes.

I think the mention of the NCAA changing D1 requirements is a preemptive strike for the SBC decision. CUSA has already said they are looking at FCS schools. Brings back memories of attendance requirements, stadium size, etc. I think universities in leagues like the MAC are searching for ways to explain why they will drop back to a new lower division, especially for football.

So we're not getting an announcement today. Our leadership looks really dumb. I mean really dumb.

Snooze, ya lose.

Only good thing Herd has going for them though, is they're the Sun Belt's most attractive team that's available for the snatching. But, sometimes, that goes out the window when you're asleep at the wheel.

Thinking they still go to the Sun Belt, whether tomorrow, or Monday. If they don't, then shame on whomever.

It will be Tuesday or Thursday.

You don't make announcements/press releases on Friday unless you want them lost in the cycle and no one paying attention.

Dragging this out is bush league.

In two or three years, when the truth of how we blew it comes out, it will be an interesting read.

....and in classic "Sam in the time tunnel" fashion, when the announcement is made, and Herd fans around the globe are rejoicing, Sam will become catatonic and convince himself that he knew it was going to happen "all along". Then he will start discussions with: "I don't do history, never had any interest. We are with Conference, The Sun Belt Conference!" and the earth will continue to turn..............

IF we blow it there won't be anyone around to care to read about it. IF Marshall screws this up they are going to lose a huge chunk of the fan base and a lot of money.
Well I guess there is a bright side to everything

You have predicted 1569 of my last zero breakdowns.

Nothing less than the future of MU athletics, at least as a Division I-A member, is a stake. I hope we don’t blow it, but it seems we are. It will be interesting to know what REALLY went on either way, which we will find out in a few years. Eventually people get disgruntled and detached from the group and the truth gets out.

My bet on the hold up is still the same as I have stated earlier. DD.

I've got a whole mess of pitchforks and torches out in the barn should they screw this up. If we don't make it to the Sun Belt, we meet up at the ol' gas station on the corner of campus and split up into two teams : one green and one white. 🤣💚💚💚

D.D. Said last night at a men’s dinner for KofC that he is excited for the SB and the new makeup of CUSA or future makeup is pitiful. Said it for all to hear.

According to SBC and ODU fans we have. For some reasons we've decided to make it a spectacle on our end.
Marshall administrations can screw up the proverbial wet dream. If we are joining the Sunbelt then why the delayed announcement? Mr Smith can do it in his press conference today. If we choose to remain in what is left of CUSA then we will have made yet another blunder. JMO

Then that right there is the biggest scoop in Marshall athletics since, at least, the alleged fight last football season. I’m not doubting you, but if the head coach of the second (maybe third) most important sport on campus make a statement about our conference affiliation, how come it not all over WSAZ, H-D, this website, etc?

Don't know Sam. That's just what the man said and was heard by dozens in the room.

Whats wrong Sammy? Another one of your loser predictions imploding. Do you actually think WSAZ is going to cover a private dinner event.

God, some of you are morons.

I also think they want the new President to have his imput

Do you honestly think they haven't been keeping Smith abreast of this conference stuff the whole time? Come on man! There's nothing else they can discuss with him unless it's something that broke during his introduction. This has been the worst kept, dog and pony secret in Huntington. lol

How about we just let Brad have his day. Things will be alright.

I totally disagree that waiting a little while longer "blows it". Everything I have read tells me that JMU cannot agree until they get a legal clearance. The Sun Belt knows this. They also know we just named a new president today. I'm sure the Sun Belt expects a delay from both of us, and is willing to wait. It's the fans that hate the wait the most. And the fans just have to get over it and wait it out. Now having said that. I don't think the Sun Belt waits a month or so. But they're willing to give us and JMU a little more time.

Reasonable business thoughts^^^.

We simply cant have that. Time to line up with our pitchforks and torches and burn this mvtherfvcker down!!!!

I'd say they've given us a deadline and have WKU and others lined up if we can't meet that. Reasonable.

Unless something changes. Like maybe this foolishness makes the SBC think again. Or the Virginia government (which doesn’t give a flying f*** about Virginians who don’t live in area code 703) tells JMU no. Or WKU, or whoever, makes an offer like it will take half rations on the TV money for four or six years, or Liberty repeats its $20M offer. Or …

Get it in writing. Signed, sealed and delivered. Locked down.

What “prediction” is that?

I said that i hoped we weren’t blowing it. YOU are among the “it is a done deal” chorus, which means either you were wrong, of the president of the BOG is lying. I never predicted at thing. I did say what I thought, which is that we are blowing it. I’m not alone.

I said I had no faith in out football team last time out, and I still don’t. I never predicted a loss. I said I had no reason for optimism. And I still don’t.

I do predict Astros in six.

Obviously, no one in this thread knows what is taking place. No need to drag someone's name in the mud because we don't like the time we are taking to make this decision. My guess is the hiring of Brad Smith has been a major factor in keeping everything close to the vest. Coach D will support the decision made and stated he trusts the University will make their decision based on what is best for the whole university. He made that statement publicly at the Intra Squad Scrimmage.

Let's think about this a minute. From the perspective of the Sunbelt, Marshall dragging its feet just keeps the conference in the sports news cycle. The first real media coverage about the 4 four schools came out last week, Southern Miss kicks it off last Friday, ODU formally announces today, Marshall to follow in suit, and James Madison comes in after us. This works well for the conference we're entering, and it works well for Marshall. Our new president is in the fold, give that a nice news cycle of a couple of days, game over the weekend with tons of speculation, then an announcement early next week. It's a win all the way around. The only loss is if we stand pat in C-USA and do nothing. Then... we look epically stupid.
