Ok, we know we have a weakness in the secondary with young kids learning on the fly. We allowed Akron's QB burn us as well as Jackson. The Jackson numbers doesn't bother me as much, but Akron's numbers do.
So I am going to say this much: As much as I am sick of losing to MAC teams, we definitely shouldn't be losing to them at home. I know a load of combined mistakes equating to the perfect storm against us is what the cause was, but still, it was a home game we had no business losing.
As much as I admire Heater's approach on defense, the aggressive style, he knows we have a weakness with the secondary but we are still seeing man and press man coverage. UL's receivers were getting 10 yard separation down field, with no safety help. I do not understand putting these young guys in bad situations and not adjusting from the results. Ok off my soap box now with the D.
Obviously our Oline is once again underperforming though they seemed to be a little better sat night. They should not be a work in progress with that many veterans on the line, so to me its a head scratcher.
Pittman should be our premier back, Foster, while he has his moments needs to be back in the slot, I think he is more of a threat there. Pittman runs like a man on a mission in compared to the rest of the backs.
Ok, I know like me, you guys are upset with how things have gone BUT the sky is not falling, this team is still a team that will contend in the east and no one is CUSA has shown that they are doing much better than we are. So you guys need to stop this pessimistic behavior, calling out coaches, calling out players. We, myself included, may not agree with the gameplan but the success these guys have had over the last few years prove they know more than 99% of us. I saw a game plan working Saturday defensively and if we had more experienced guys at db it would have worked even better. All we can do is give the kids some time to grow and gel. The same goes for the offense, an 18 year old kid trying to run an offense against a top 10 defense. What more could we expect? Yeah legg dumbed everything down and took pressure off him by not calling pass plays much, as I fully expected him to do that. It did lead to a bunch of 3 and outs but in hindsight it could have been a bunch of pic 6's by forcing a very green freshman to throw the ball around more than he would have been comfortable doing, and yes it did burn our defense out in the process.
So in closing, lets get behind this team, create some optimism and realize the sun will come up tomorrow and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Most are fuming still about Akron, and you have a right to be, but we shouldn't be that disappointed in UL game, especially with the fact that we gave them more of a game than Syracuse or FSU(I watched the FSU game, it was very bad). Slow down and look around, next week may change your tune if you can't change it yourself. I have to believe the freshman will learn and get better, I have to believe we can go toe to toe with anyone in our conference and from what I have seen I fully believe we can. Keep things in perspective.
