MegaMillions is $1 billion tonight. The guy at the Circle K said people are acting like fools and blowing hundreds of dollars of tickets. Me, I stayed at the same old $6. Fvck it, that's a buck more than a max bet spin in video poker.

Any idiots here plunking down a Benjamin for a one in a billion chance?

$20 is good enough for me.

I buy one of each, mega and pb, every drawing. Guy in front of me earlier bought $50.00 worth, and didn't seem to me like he could afford food on the table. Kind of felt bad for him, well, until I saw him go to the other register and get himself a fifth of Beam.

The lottery is a tax for being bad at math. That said, as long as you understand you are not going to win there is no harm in buying a ticket for the entertainment value of playing.

I dated a math teacher once who would go into crazy specific detail just how dumb wasting your money on the lottery is. I justify it as a tiny donation to the education budget.

The odds of winning if you buy 1 ticket vs 20 is so negligible that it really doesn’t matter. People wasting money buy $50 worth or more, unless they are buying for a group of people is stupid.

I thought about getting a driver and a cooler full of beer, a hundred dolla bill, and road tripping buying lotto tickets at different stores throughout WV, MD, VA, & PA. Ended up spending day partially hungover at work, reading and posting on Pullman and tMB, and dropping $20 at 2 different locations in town. Probly the only lotto tickets I'll buy in 2018. If I win, the regular con posters of this site win too.

Last time I bought tix, I entered numbers into app on phone. Was at a buddy's cabin with 4 others drinking. Changed my numbers to winning numbers after drawing and had them all convinced I won and had left ticket on office desk at home. One of them went outside and called my wife at 1 a.m. to have her get ticket and check numbers. She hung up on him. I didn't know bout that till I got home following day. Told them all I'd give them $2M each. When I finally fessed up about 2 a.m., one of the guys went into depression, thought he was gonna cry. Liberal pansy. About took a drunken ass whoopin over that one.

My plan for my winnings. First 10% to the church, then $30MM straight into 10 year treasuries, that gets me a million a year tax free to live on, the balance into a newly form charitable trust where I will be the Chairman and will make my daughter the CEO.

Marshall will benefit, but only a little bit on the athletic side. I have an idea on some specialized degrees that the school of business should be offering and will work with the school to get that done. There are local charities that I am also active with and my daughter is all things animal rescue, so expect a tremendous new shelter for the region. I also have a plan to rescue the area of the park neighborhood between 10th Street and 16th Street and 9th Ave and 13th Ave. I want to save the salvageable older homes and mix in apartments, local shopping, bars and restaurants, basically make it a place for the younger crowd. Just got to buy it up and get the druggies out. Lastly, I am going to buy and remediate the ACF property. Plans for that are secret.

If I win, I'm buying the most incredible RV ever made. Then, driving to Cali, and picking up Snoop. Then, onto Texas and picking up Willie. Return to Michigan, and picking up Uncle Ted and Kid Rock, and proceed to tie on an incredible drunk for the ages. If I survive that, driving to mountains of WV and me and @WV-FAN will open up that brewery and car wash with naked coeds washing cars. No, I won't give a fvck if we have no business. Don't really want no business. Beers, weed, and ho's, living the good life.

Banker can figure out our funds, but we'll be dead well before the first 40 million is spent.

There's really no advantage statistically of picking your own, or disadvantage either.

Yeah, I would guess that more than 66% do auto pick, or at least close to that number. I remember when the lottery first started in Ohio. It had a weekly drawing for a dollar a pick. I played the exact same number for years, still remember it - 6,17,19,21,28-35. Don't know why I picked those numbers, but after I picked them I just kept playing it because if it ever hit and I didn't play it...you know.

My best lottery story, the best I have ever done is hit 3 numbers plus the powerball. I was checking the numbers, powerball first, matched it, got the first number, the second number, the third number, the fourth was one digit higher and the fifth was one digit lower. I look at those numbers 100 times to make sure I wasn't seeing it wrong.

I actually know a guy who won the powerball, he was the leasing agent for a customer of mine that owns a bunch of malls and shopping centers. Won something like $84 million. Took the annual payments, something like $1.9MM a year for 25 years after taxes.

I bought a ticket at the same store as the Massachusetts lady who won it last year. Timing in life is everything

Jackpot is now an estimated 1.6 BILLION. So just for fun what would everyone do if they won. Take the lump sum or annuity

Yeah I’m the same. No way I trust them to be around in 30 years to give me my money.

Although I agree with your sentiment...unless you hide the money under a rock, you still have to trust some institution with it. Banks? Are they more stable than governments? What is the investment medium? Stocks? Bonds? You still have to trust businesses, municipalities, etc. What about precious metals? Safe low risk investments whose underlying investments are the very government you don’t trust to exist 30 years from now? Let’s hide diamonds and gold. Would a new society value these items in the event of a collapse?

With that much money you’re going to have to diversify and hope for the best. If a person truly needs safeguards in the event of a breakdown in society, your best bet is to build enforced shelters, supplied with power generators and heavily stocked non-perishable items. You’ll need to be heavily armed because people are going to come after you. A virtual doomsday peppers dream.

But yeah...I’m with you...lump sum is the way to go. Lol

I would pay off my family’s houses and cars and buy an island on Smith Mtn lake where I live and donate it to the state for a boys and girls summer camp.

Then I would disappear in Belize.
