People that questioned our corners and pass d . . .

Don't think our Dbs are that good. We had a monster pass rush tonight that kept them out of sync and little time to throw accurately.

If we don't get that kind of push against WKU. We get lit. Their QB is legit.

The statistics say otherwise. Besides, no dbs are good without a complimentary pass rush. You can't have good coverage if a qb has 8-10 seconds to throw the ball. NFL dbs couldn't cover someone for that long. We had 15 PBUs and another interception (possibly 2). Some of the break-ups were at the line, but most were downfield. I would guess our 4th ranked pass d efficiency rating goes up after this weekend, as well as our 29th overall pass d rating.

The WKU game won't be about the DB's.That game will be about the offense staying on the field. If Litton can move the ball the defense will do what this defense does, control the game.Don't worry about the DB's they'll do their thing. There's a couple of noses to bloody before we get to WKU so lets sit back and enjoy the fight.Next!!!

They somehow make it work but my only real complaint is they dont turn their head for the ball but it is a technique they are all using which makes me think that it is how they're being coached to do it. I hate it and it results in plenty of PI penalties. The first thing you do on a close play is locate the ball so you can knock it down or puck it off and especially so they cant call a penalty bc you arent making a play on the ball. They do well and play as a team helping each other on defense but nit picking i guess bc they are pretty successful with the bend but dont break thing they do

Hah I was one person who questioned them, and if you think I'm not happy to be wrong, you're goofy.

Honestky I think the difference was heater brought the thunder tonight. He blitzed more tonight than I believe I've ever seen from us. It was well planned and well executed.

WKU is going to be avout one thing and one thing only. Getting to Doughty. We lost last year because we got no pressure on him. We never got him rattled.

As good as our DBs plays, and they did, they owe a huge thanks to that DLine chasing Mullens around all night and knocking him around. His clock got sped up all night and he was not able to wait in his routes and atep into his throws

Go back to the 3rd quarter in the teo 3rd and long situations. We rushed three and brought in an extra DB and what happened. They converted and converted easily.

I don't care how good your DBs are. If there is no pressure on the QB you are getting carved up.

You can talk about Litton and whether or not he can keep pace but not being able to keep pace was not the issue last season vs WKU. It was stopping WKU and getting to Doughty.

4 INTs hurt pretty bad too.

Exactly, Bleeds. Just like last night, we kept hitting Mullens and you can tell it affected him: hurried throws, etc. No QB likes to get hit and I remember last year Doughty got in a comfortable zone and we did nothing to get him out of it. Pressure from our front 4 and occasional blitzes from linebackers and or dbs will be a key in this year's game.

I'm not sold.

This game reminded me of Houston in 08. We had one big mismatch and that was the pass rush package that they couldn't slow down. Same thing happened in 08 and we made a good qb look bad that night.

The pass rush wasn't complimentary last night. It was THE difference. Certainly could be the difference in the WKU game too. I'm just not sure that will happen yet.

Cornerbacks are taught multiple techniques all dependent on the route run and their position against that route. In many cases (particularly sideline fly patterns) they are taught to NOT turn their heads towards the pass but to mirror the actions of the receiver.

Playing cornerback is a constant chess match vs the QB and receiver. Most difficult position to play on defense.

A good pass defense is all about solid DB play and a consistent pass rush. We are getting there. We have some very good passing offenses ahead of us but I think we are improving by leaps and bounds on D!!!

I think our secondary has improved game by game and is undoubtedly a strong point of our team. People like to rag on Tindal because he.gets the ball thrown over his head sometimes but that's because he plays so aggressive. He is a beast on the short stuff but because of that he is susceptible to the long ball but he seems to be improving in that department and hopefully that continues.

Someone saw what really went on. Good call!

Sometimes I question 2 things about posters on here.

1) They will find anything to complain about.......(ie: Based on rating....The 4th best pass defense in the country)

2) Do they even watch the games or understand how the game is played?

Our DBs as a unit, are very good......However, every good pass defense team is built on more than good DBs. Pass rush is probably more important.......15 of the 20 Top Pass Defense Teams have double digit sacks and 3 others have 9.....Defensive scheme is also important. (Cover 2, Cover 3, Tampa 2, Zone, Man, Blitz Packages) and overall personnel all come into play.

Our 2 deep in the defensive backfield only has 2 Srs, one of which has hardly played in his career due to injury. We graduated possibly our most talented DB ever and lost arguably our best returning safety. But with our D-line coming together and the experience our DBs are gaining, this unit has the potential to be very good by the time we face WKU.

Does that mean WKU won't pass for 500 yards? Absolutely not, their offense is VERY good but defensively I think we have a great chance to slow them down......We are going to need a lot of help from our offense. I'm also confident that over the bye, Heater will put together a solid game plan.

Let's get by these next 5 first.......This week will be tougher than we think and MTSU on the road will be a challenge.

Inside backer and 3 Technique DT is more difficult then Corner

And our Dbs especially safeties are a lot better then you guys are giving them credit for

The problem is, people think a db isn't "good" unless he intercepts every pass thrown his way, which is ridiculous. Our secondary is very good this year, and may be great before the season is out.

This is also one of the best tackling units I can remember in a long time.

As a whole they do an excellent job of hitting and wrapping up.

Regardless of what happens against wku, our dbs are good. You can't judge a team, unit, or player on their performance in one game. Do we need the secondary to play well to beat wku? Probably, but even if they don't, it won't take away anything they might do before our after.
