PGA Championship moving to May 2019

I like it.

Also dig the Players moving to March.

May in places like Tulsa (Southern Hills) and SC (Kiawah) will be much more comfortable experiences for players and fans.

The playoffs going from three to four tournaments seems smart, too.

Wonder how this affects Jack's tournament.

There has been talk of Muirfield Village (i) hosting the PGA Championship and (ii) becoming part of the FedEx Cup (or whatever it is called) in parallel (so in a PGA Champ. host year, Muirfield Village would get two tourneys), and then (iii) host a future Ryder Cup. In a Ryder Cup year, Muirfield Village would be ineligible to host either the PGA Ch. or a FedEx Cup event.

I think all three are likely to happen. Though I would expect the PGA Champ. before the Ryder Cup.

Southern Hills (Tulsa) is likely to get the 2023 PGA, which means MV might get it in 2024. One caveat is Trump National hosting in 2022; I think that is in jeopardy (b/c of politics, of course). Would not be surprised to see Trump Nat. drop off the list, and MV taking the 2020 slot (and bumping Harding Park and Kiawah back one year each).

The first Ryder Cup slot open is 2028.

As PGA czar, I would use Firestone and Muirfield Village as back-to-back stops on the FedEx Cup rota, with each alternating each year as the "kick-off" of the playoff. Would also like to see the Ryder Cup (don't care much about the Pres. Cup) week moved up by at least one week to avoid some of the cool weather typical for the northern venues that the PGA of America insist upon using in the Ryder Cup.

Stream of consciousness concludes.

I like your thoughts on this subject. Thanks.

Man I'd love to see the RC at Muirfield.

Not unprecedented: the 1987 Ryder Cup (and the first Euro victory on American soil -- Americans forced to endure Olazabal's victory dance) was at MV. According to several inside reports/story in at least one book, Mr. Nicklaus was beyond hacked off b/c (a) he was captain, (b) with his venue hosting, and (c) he was the first US captain to lose on US soil. I think Jack wants another shot with an American team against the Euros in Dublin (Ohio - of course).

As retold by Payne Stewart: "He [Nicklaus] told us, 'You guys just don't know how to win. How many matches were we leading going into 18 and didn't win them? Look at you, Payne Stewart. You make all this money on tour, but how many tournaments have you won? Why don't you win more?' He said, 'You guys need to learn how to win or you're going to continue getting beaten in this thing.'"

At that point, Payne Stewart had earned the derogatory nickname "Avis" for the 28 top 10s in four seasons, but only one win (for the younger set - "Avis" was a distant second in the car rental war with "Hertz"; Avis was such a distant second that they adopted their junior status as part of their brand and marketing for more than two decades: "Avis: We Try Harder").

For selfish reasons (proximity) - would also love to see RC at MV.

You always wonder ehat will happen when mr nicklaus passes. The byron nelson tournament has diminished in stature and you can see it with arnold palmers tournament already. I think that is why you see some moves with the course up there.

The big issue with the Byron Nelson is (was, maybe?) it's place on the schedule. It was the week after the Players and two weeks before the Memorial. The course is meh, too.

Arnie's tourney is right before the match-play WGC and two weeks after the WGC in Mexico.

Most of the big guns just aren't going to play 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 5 weeks - and I don't blame them.

yeah, i've heard several complain/mention this run they're about to start with 8-9 tournaments in like 10-11 weeks

I feel that if a fifth major is established it will not be in the US. The global scope of the game demands this and the fact there will now be nine months between majors I believe a fifth major will be set up possibly south of the equator in Australia or more likely Asia. I just don't see the Players achieving true major status, though most agree it been a de facto major for years.

i don't necessarily disagree with you, but with the prestige/momentum/etc the players has right now it'd take something pretty spectacular to overtake the players.

anyone do daily fantasy for golf? i usually only do the majors or big tournaments...
