...first off, i love whistling straits, great course.

secondly, if eldrick could putt, he'd be running away with this, he's barely miss several birdie chances so far. may be time to go back to the scotty.

He won't ever go back to the Scotty. Nike stood behind him during his transgression period and that is when the Scotty went away.

I picked up a Scotty Cameron putter in Dicks the other day. I even putted a few on their little putting green. Man it felt nice. Then I turned it over and read $395. My Odyssey will be just fine.

Yep. Scotty is over priced IMO . I would be hard pressed to fork out the money for a Scotty. Can't beat and Odyssey or PING putter.

For the record, I have never seen a Scotty in a Dick's Sporting Good nor any other Titleist made club. That is unusual. What kind of price did they have on it?

This is the first time I saw SC in Dicks. They had about 10 of them in a rack. The prices ranged from around $249 to $399 if I remember correctly.

Sometimes Dick's, in certain areas, will get brands like that if the manufacturer is clearing stuff out. You can find some good deals every now and then there.

I will go to places like Dicks or any other golf store, and try out the clubs, and then I'll usually purchase them on TGW.com. You can usually get very good deals through that site. I buy most of my misc equipment there as well, things like a bag of 500 tees, gloves, rain gear, and even shirts. You just have to keep checking the site from time to time, and for really great deals, check out their clearance area.

ive purchased from tgw and globalgolf this year, been happy with both.

yeah, the dick's in barboursville has 10 or so scotty putters as well, and a decent selection of the vokey wedges.

I found out it is regional based on a manufacturer's distribution in the area.

I think that is the one major issue I have always had with SC putters. For the most part, the most popular SC putters are similar in design to the Ping's Anser, Anser 2, Zing and Zing 2. If I were a competitive amateur or pro, where either the price was not a concern or performance over rode price sensitivity, I would spring for the SC because the faces provide better feel than the Ping offerings (at least until Ping jumped into the milled-faces).

I own three putters: Ping Zing 2 (1991-1998); Ping Anser 2 (1998-2009), and an Odyssey White Hot (2-ball) mallet-type head putter. Putting (and my short-game) have always been the best part of my game (insert "tallest midget in circus" reference here). When I got the Odyssey (as a gift from a friend), my putting became crazy consistent. The feel is soooooo much different (and better) compared to the Ping putters. I think the only thing that would cause me to revert to the Zing 2 or Anser 2 putters would be poor green conditions, as in shaggy and slow greens and I needed a sledgehammer versus a putter (and by comparison, the Anser 2 feels like a 20 lbs. sledge compared to the Odyssey).

I'm hoping to finally get some new clubs next year (if my practice takes off). I've been playing Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scots since 1992. I'm 10 generations of technology behind the times. And it shows. :)

i was hitting similar tommy's until this year, went to a demo day and tried a variety of irons from ping, titleist, nike, mizuno, etc. the technology has changed so much, you'll notice a difference. if my irons had been 5-6 years old, no major changes, but in 20+ years, huge jumps in technology. also, might take some adjustment, today's lofts are more aggressive, my new PW is about 46, my old tommy PW was 49 i believe.

I have a Oddyssey White Hot 2 Ball Blade and it is a good putter. Great putter. Also have a PING Zing 2, and another Odyssey White Ice Dart Mallet.

If I were going to buy one right now it would be between The Oddysey Works putter and a PING Scottsdale.

Scotty Cameron copied PING(as did most everybody else at point). I just can't see myself springing for one unless I got a heck of a deal.

Those Tommy's were top of the line back in the day. Tommy Armour brand is now a house brand for the Sports Authority. They made some dandy clubs back then. I had a Tommy Armour three wood that was a behemoth when I nutted it. I traded it like an idiot.

happy for jason day, he seems like a pretty good dude.

am i the only one that thinks the whole jordan's total majors score this year being lower than tiger's is a bunch of shit? i mean the 2000 us open was arguably the greatest four rounds of golf in majors history. tiger finished majors that year -53. if you figure in the runners up to the 3 and the winner of the masters they were only -31. this year if you count the 2 runners up to jordan and the 2 other winners they were -51. this year's tracks were much easier, even the debacle at chambers bay.

I heard a guy on PGA radio say if the weather is good and the course is soft then whistling straits is not that hard of a course. That is what happened. Same thing with Augusta. The greens protect the course.

Jordan is a great golfer. His one weakness that I see is that when guys like Mclroy, Day, etc. can start bombing the golf ball it puts pressure on him to have a perfect short game and putting. That eventually catches up with you.
He is fantastic golfer though and the fields are very deep now.

The 2000 US Open by Tiger might have been one of the most dominate performances not only in golf but in sports history.

All of the websites mentioned are good. I always try on shoes at Dick's or Golf Galaxy and then order them online. I'm a walker so I go thru quite a few pairs.

As far as clubs go I always stay a year or two behind the curve. Never buy any club in it's intro year. The mark up is ridiculous. Example.......TM SLDR was selling for $399 when it first came out. It was in yesterday's Dick's flyer for $169.

I've been playing a Scotty for the last 5 years and have no plans to switch anytime in the future. I paid $295........People pay $300+ for a new driver and hit it 10-12 times per round......You'll hit your putter 30 times every round.

YOU might hit your putter 30 times a round. But me...I hit mine way more than that. :p

good point, but what's the technology/performance difference between a $50 putter vs a scotty and a $50 driver vs a sldr?

I would contend that there is a performance difference between a $50 putter and a Scotty. However, you can get a very good putter in the $100 range.

The point is that players spend an enormous amount of money on a club that they hit 12 times per round and often replace that club every other year.

Regardless of the money, whether it's a $50 putter or a $350 putter, finding one that feels good in your hands and instills confidence is what matters most.
