My guess is....if a dem had won, the proud index would have been the opposite. Also, when there's a disparity between the popular and electoral votes, there's going to be controversy.
I am was proud of the country even when guys I didn't vote for were POTUS. The country is bigger than a POTUS.My guess is....if a dem had won, the proud index would have been the opposite. Also, when there's a disparity between the popular and electoral votes, there's going to be controversy.
Also, it's tough to be proud of a system that where the majority doesn't determine who wins.....again, it's better when the popular vote aligns with the electoral vote.
Mine was not a statement of the validity of the electoral college...it was merely stating what I believe to be as fact. When they don't align, there will be controversy. If the republicans managed a popular vote majority and lost via the electoral college - there would be controversy just like there is today Dems.Demonstrates just how ignorant the masses are that have this as their belief.
Exibit A below, which validates my post:Hell, a quick scan of Pullman Square would have told you that.
Look at this damn bunch of Starbucks hippies on this place.
The title of this thread is quite a bit misleading. The majority of Democrats polled claim that they are either "extremely proud" or "very proud" of the U.S.
Sure, you can claim the poll shows that "Dems are not proud of America," but you could also say the same thing by replacing "dems" with "republicans."
The fact is that the majority of Dems polled are either "extremely proud" or "very proud" and that nearly 85% of Dems polled are, at the least, "moderately proud" of America.
Tier Three strikes again!
But let's look at the U.S. compared to other countries. In education, we are quite a bit behind. In health care for all, we are well behind. In birth and death rates, we are quite a bit behind. Social programs the same. Incarceration rates we are awful. Violent crimes we are well behind. Murder rates, well behind. Disparity of income, we are well behind.
In the things that most people care the most about (health, safety, education, financial security, freedom), we are well down the line in many of those. On top of that, look at the magnified issues throughout the world's media. Regardless of what you think of cheeto, the guy is a national embarrassment in the eyes of the rest of the world. You simply can't argue otherwise. Again, this is through the eyes of the rest of the world, not your personal opinion of him. Anyone with any type of world experience/knowledge knows that the overwhelming majority of the rest of the world thinks he is buffoon. The detainment of the migrant children at the Mexican border has been given a ton of global coverage. Again, an embarrassment and something people with morals are disgusted by. The overwhelming number of mass shootings taking place over the last decade+ has also received a plethora of global coverage and is well known by the rest of the world.
Talk to people who visit America for the first time. Many of them will rave about the options of choices (pertaining to things to buy, things to do, etc.), the infrastructure (we may claim it is crumbling and old, but to many other foreigners, it is impressive), and the diversity (especially as it pertains to geography, landmass, weather, etc.). But after they get comfortable with you, truly pick their brains about the things they don't freely express immediately: homelessness after they visit a major city, the gun culture, lack of healthcare for all.
Those things that matter the most to people. We are far from the top in most of those important factors.
I am was proud of the country even when guys I didn't vote for were POTUS. The country is bigger than a POTUS.

It’s not hard to be proud of the system when you actually understand how the system works from the beginningone of the segments was "pride in the political system".....I don't recall many on the right who would state they were proud of the political system during Obama. Also, it's tough to be proud of a system that where the majority doesn't determine who wins.....again, it's better when the popular vote aligns with the electoral vote.
Also, it's not just Dems - independants scored low as well. When was the last time Trump had a 50% or higher job approval rating? Has it ever been 50 or higher? I would guess most see this administration as corrupt....hard to be proud of that.
good point...Trump receiving assistance from Russia should have been anticipated. It’s not hard to be proud of the system when you actually understand how the system works from the beginning
Most Republicans I know realized that the Republicans ran bad candidates against Obama. Romney should have won, but he backed off and let Obama run all over him. I have never heard anybody I know say they are not proud of the country.one of the segments was "pride in the political system".....I don't recall many on the right who would state they were proud of the political system during Obama. That doesn't mean I was not proud of the country or disliked it, you hippie and commie supporter.Bwwwaaaahaha!!
You whined and cried for the entire 8 years Obama was in office about how this country had gone to hell in a hand basket.
That's idiotic. That's your and many other people's problem You can't come to accept the fact how bad of a candidate and flawed Hillary was. She didn't resonate with many parts of the country, including areas a Democrat should have won. That's who is to blame.good point...Trump receiving assistance from Russia should have been anticipated.

It was going to hell, doesn't mean you still are not proud moron. Not hard to figure out hipsterExplain how you can be proud of this country while stating this country had gone to hell in a hand basket? You can't, trumptard.
you need a tin foil hatF'n Hillary....Damn.....lock her up.
What's difficult to accept is any American shrugging off Russian involvement in the election. Any American not appalled that Trump gladly accepted their assistance. Hell, he even had to walk back statements he would consider foreign assistance again.

wow, were things that bad under Obama? JesusI read what you said, idiot. I want an explanation of HOW you can be proud of something that has gone to hell. Your wife starts doing drugs and pimping herself out. You're proud. You go from Pruett to Snyder. You're proud. The roof on your home starts leaking, your septic system clogs and backs up into your bathtub, and then it catches on fire and burns to the ground. Your proud. Good examples? idiot.
wow, were things that bad under Obama? Jesus
Always proud of my country. Not perfect, nothing is. Nowhere I would rather be. Would take a bullet for it. Red, white, and blue.
I don't give a **** if you want an explanation or not. Aren't you the one siding with the Ayatollah and rag heads all the time?
That's stupid, greed. Doesn't even make sense. The country is 243 years old. We have a proud history. Just because I don't like a President and things go bad for a period, overall very proud of the country. You haven't given an explanation, idiot. You SIMPLY keep repeating a mantra. I'll ask again just in case that second brain cell showed up....

I don't owe you shit.
Some pretty smart conservative folks have labeled today's republican party a Trump Cult....got your official MAGA arm band?you need a tin foil hat
There are probably some good reasons as to why many are only "moderately proud" of the United States. #SecondGildedAge
Living Paycheck To Paycheck: The New Crisis And Normal For The American Middle Class
Mac Slavo
February 7th, 2019
[...]
According to recent studies, the vast majority of the American middle class is only one missed paycheck away from poverty. About 78% of workers in the United States are living paycheck to paycheck, and the statistics don’t improve from there.
Only 39% of Americans actually have saved enough money to cover a $1000 emergency. Nearly 3 in 4 workers say they are in debt and of those, more than half think they always will be, according to statistics posted by Forbes. Any rise in interest rates or the cost of food could leave some Americans with the tough choice of eating or paying the car payment to get to work.
A similar 2016 GOBankingRates survey found that 69 percent of Americans had less than $1,000 in total savings and 34 percent had no savings at all. That means many Americans would have to put an emergency expense on a credit card or borrow money another way just to cover the cost of a $1000 expense.
Making matters worse, the 2017 Report on the Economic Wellbeing of US Households stated that, when asked how they would cover an emergency expense of $400, only 59% of Americans said they could easily cover the expense using entirely cash, savings, or a credit card paid off at the next statement. But “four in ten adults would either borrow, sell something or not be able to pay” if faced with a $400 emergency expense.
