Predicting CUSA basketball's award winners

Saw that earlier. Nobody from UAB good enough to win individual awards. Just not credible.

I'll be surprised if anyone from UAB does win any of the individual awards. None of their players are really dominating from a statistical stand point. Heck, UAB's own fans even struggle to tell you who their best player is. What they have is the very definition of a team. The individual parts aren't overly impressive but when you bring the sum of all those parts together you have a damn fine machine.

There is no one from UAB in the running for POY, Freshman of the year, or Newcomer of the year. But, yet they are the best TEAM in the conference.

But our coach should win and Kelly too.

As great a turnaround (both from last season and pre-conference this season) truly is, it would be difficult to deny Haase COY honors with a 26-win season and the regular-season conf. title. Had the Herd bumped off UAB (and La Tech) and been in position for the reg. season title or the no. 2 seed, then I think the conversation is quite a bit more interesting and the voting closer. The new guy at LT has also done a pretty good job given the loss of four-starters from last-season's squad. Not saying DD isn't deserving (I think IF he wins, it would deserving), but UAB's season is hard to ignore.

The POY voting between Freeman, Hamilton, and Kelly should be really interesting.

Based on my own personal eye test, I think Hamilton is the most unstoppable of the 3 in the running for POY. With Kelly being (in my mind) the shoo-in for newcomer of the year, I agree with the link that he will be less likely to win the player of the year.

Also - despite the UAB "team" aspect, I can't imagine them being shut out of the 3 all-conference teams like suggested. Haase would be the only challenger to D'antoni for COY and I wouldn't have a problem with him taking it.

Well the original link only did2 all conference teams instead of the 3.. But I agree UAB will have some representation on all-conference teams for sure but I think the original story is pretty close on all of the other predictions.

I think the POY vote will be (in order): Hamilton, Kelly, Freeman, Evans

COY: Haase (D'antoni second)

Newcomer: Kelly

Freshman of the Year: Evans

UAB will land the most players on the all-conference teams (1st, 2nd, 3rd).

Thing that Danny has in his favor is that NO ONE expected the Herd to have ANY success this season. On the other hand, just about EVERYONE picked the Blazers the repeat as conference champs. Thus D'Antoni's team, with a boatload of newcomers, achieved far greater than was expected of them; the Blazers, with virtually everyone back, did what was expected of them!
