also reporting that he has enough unreleased songs to fill aprox 40 albums........

I remember watching a clip on youtube a few years ago of Kevin Smith talking about getting invited to Paisley Park to shoot something for Prince. He mentioned that Prince's assistant told him that Prince has a vault with thousands of unreleased songs - & many have had an accompanying video as well. When Smith asked when they would be released, she told him maybe never.

It's been a couple years since I've watched it (video below) so my memory may be a little off but it's worth watching if you have some time to kill & don't mind Kevin Smith.

The best speculation on the "vault" inventory is about 2000 unreleased (but completely produced) songs and about 100+ full-length music videos (he had about 50 videos at the time of Kevin Smith's "evening with" video).

Not surprised he didn't have a will. After his long-term battle with Warner Bros. from the early-80s to 1996, he started drawing a distinction between "contracts" and "agreements" - that contracts were formalized writings and agreements are more of unwritten understandings. Not much legal distinction in those terms, but that is how Prince started operating in the mid-90s. A will is more-or-less a contract with the state regarding disposition of your estate.

With that said - with at least one sister (and about seven half-brothers/sisters) and at least one business entity (Paisley Park Enterprises) that likely controls a good portion of the copyright assets in his back-catalog, this should be an entertaining public battle over the rights and control over the music of a musical genius.

one of my co-workers has been dealing with someone lately that's just inane with their requests, i shared the video with him, told him next time she requests something off the wall, just respond with that question. i'm hoping he's fed up with shit that day and actually does it.
