Quarterback Chaos

Per current player sources, Gunnar not at bowl game due to dismissal from Doc for transfer request for UT - Martin. Birdsong to transfer after St.Pete bowl. Might be rumors but no confirmation of Gunnar at practice.

I wouldn't exactly call that chaos.

I think anyone who has been around college football for any length of time could see this coming.

We have our starter for the next 3 years. Gunnar and Birdsong both want a chance to play. Can't blame them for that.

We just need to make sure we have a qb coming in this recruiting class to backup Litton.

Gunnar was barely part of the team. Adios.

Birdsong transferring would be utter stupidity, as by now he has to realize his talent level is at the #2 QB, at best.

Is Morrell able to enroll next month and get a jump on the learning curve? Also, they still have this young fella named Gallup on the team.

I will say that hopefully this teaches Doc and Co that you need to try for more than one QB a class. Too much attrition, too many "me now" attitudes out of guys at that position.

I understand Gunner moving on. If Birdsong leaves I find that a bad move. 3 schools in a career makes no sense to me. After all he is one play away from playing. Any game your starter could get hurt- he knows that so hope he stays.

I disagree. Gunnar, although he didn't play much when he was here, was very much part of this team. He was an active teammate and extremely supportive of both Birdsong and Litton. He was actually far more a part of this team than you would expect from someone in his position. We've had other quarterbacks leave the program after it didn't work out still taking shots at the team and coaches. Gunnar has shown nothing but class. I hate to see him go, but I understand why he is leaving. He'll always be a son of Marshall in my book.

And Birdsong...I don't find transferring stupid at all. The kid can either go somewhere where he has a chance to play, something you can't blame a kid for wanting to do, or languish behind Litton waiting for scraps or injury. The fact that it didn't work out for him here doesn't change the fac that all the kid wants to do is playt. I'd love to have an experienced backup for Litton next year, but that's for purely selfish reasons. I wouldn't expect a kid to stand on the sideline all season just so my team is in a better situation in case the starter gets hurt.

Doc needs to recruit kids with a good head and work ethic and less of the prima donna types who cut and run of they fall on the depth chart.

That wasn't Gunnar and Birdsong but others for sure.

True, I wish Gunnar the best of luck. It must take some kind of character to know your not playing and still be engaged with the scheme and your teammates. Now, Birdsong I'm neutral about. It's not like he is 3rd on the chart. At the same time, it must be pretty domoarlizing to get beat out by a true freshman.

After the 2014 Conference USA Championship Game Gunnar held my 8-year old son on his shoulders so he could see the presentation of the trophy.

Gunnar immediately became one of my favorite players on the team.

I wish him all the best and I hope he lights it up good wherever he lands!

Doc recruits that type of player and we will finish 5th or 6th in conference USA consistently.

I see that the problem today was actually started by the departure of Blake Fro. A fan favorite good guy. No one blamed him but he really should have had this team this year giving chase a red shirt. The dynasty would be gin. Don't blame Gunnar and was never impressed by birdsong, thought he be slow not sure why some wrote he would be Big Ben with his size. I have not doubt Doc can recruit a kid in the next year or two. Hopefully line will be fix.
