I am looking for a good, but inexpensive (that is, under $75) coffee grinder. I use a drip coffee maker (and a press on occasion) so I don't need a fancy espresso-level grinder. Just something reliable and easy to clean. Thoughts or recommendations? Thanks.

Yes, Maxwell House used with a filter and drink it black like a man is supposed to

If memory serves me correctly, @-CarlHungus- is the resident coffee pedant on here. I guarantee he can answer this.

Capresso conical burr grinder. Should be under $50. I think burr grinders are better than blade grinders.

It’s really hard to get a good electric burr grinder for under $125.

I recommend a Baratza Encore as a good quality burr grinder for drip.

I can’t recommend it enough. Grinder is way more important than the actual coffee drip machine for quality coffee.

Get your beans freshly roasted - on a budget Happymug.com is great. Brew with your beans within a few weeks off roast with your Encore and you’ll be making better coffee than you’ve ever had this side of a third wave high end coffee shop.

See...told ya.

I recommend a cheap digital scale to weigh beans. 16 to one water:coffee ratio.

If you weigh and grind fresh beans with a good grinder it will change your life.

Coffee is a big rabbit hole though. Beware. Once you realize how good it can be (and how awful the stuff is they serve out there) there’s no turning back.

This is not a bad one on a budget. I think the Encore is better but a little more pricey.

Stay away from the Cuisineart burr grinder. It’s inconsistent and produces way too many fines.
Hell, I didn't even know what a "fine" was until I read this....but you're correct. The Cuisinart is a bit inconsistent.

What the hell is wrong with you people? Just make your wife handle the coffee making equipment. It's in the kitchen, so it's her responsibility. Just wake up and have her bring you a cup every morning.

At the end of the day always just drink what you like. Don’t let ridiculous people like me sway you but it is worthwhile to at least try fresh not over roasted coffee well made.

If you like pre ground Maxwell House (rather than a single origin Ethiopian) or Bud Light (rather than a micro brew IPA) there’s nothing wrong with that.

I like that there's so much choice in coffee and that you can can get it locally roasted.

At the Wild Ramp there's probably 5 local roasters within 125 miles of Huntington. Fresher coffee and the money stays in the area, helping the local economy.

We've come a long way from the choice of Folgers or Maxwell House, regular or decaf

This is the right answer and a great attitude. I drink the cheap k-cup stuff. I love coffee and could see myself getting into the art of it, but I just don’t have the time to add anything else in my life. Maybe when I retire.

But I agree with the “drink it black” comment. And Starbucks? Never. If not just for the principle of it. My youngest daughter buys drinks from there and I’m always telling her she’d be better of going to Steak and Shake if she wants a milk shake, because that’s all their drinks are.

Unless you get a black coffee from Starbucks of course.

Soccer and blonde roast Starbucks, your man card has been permanently yanked for life.

Starbucks over roasts their beans, making their coffee smell, and taste, terrible. Although their blonde roast is better than what they used to offer.

You’re right. If you’re this astute you’re ready for the lightly roasted dive into craft coffee ar home.

Part of that Starbucks roast profile is reproducibility though - as that flavor can be replicated regardless of bean season and the smoked flavor is masked by all that milk in their milk based drinks.

Their blonde isn’t bad and their reserve is better.
