Smoking meats that is.

I have a Green Egg that I use, but that thing is a lot of work. Was thinking about adding a nice electric smoker, one I've seen advertised quite a bit - The Masterbuilt.

Has anybody ever used an electric one? This one actually has an app, and you can monitor your meat from inside your house (during brutal winter days). Of course, I monitor my meat 24/7 regardless of weather. Was just curious if they do a good job, but wasn't sure if anybody on this board has one or not.

have a buddy with an electric that feeds the pellets of wood through it. he really likes it and has brought it to the cabin and smoked various meats in it which turned out pretty damn good. his doesn't appear to be quite as big as the one you've posted, but based on his, i'd highly recommend one.

Yep I switch from the big green egg to this smoker about a year ago. Much easier and doesn’t take up you entire day monitoring it. I chose this one because of the detached smoker box. You can cold smoke cheese and sausage, great during the holidays.

They've got a good deal on the 40" one on Amazon for $311.00, plus I was going to get the leg extension base, and a cover. I couldn't find the smoker box though. Is that something you probably have to purchase separate, or do some of them come with it? Wondering, because I'm assuming all 40" are set up to add the box.

Got mine from Cabelas. Mine had the cold box with it. It detaches and attaches to the removable chip tray. If you don’t want to do cheeses you can get by without it. You can smoke at a pretty low temperature without it. I think the lowest temp setting I set it on that actually produces smoke is around 170. That’s a good slow temp for fish and sausage. I use really mild woods with mine mostly apple, peach and some cherry. Down here peach is the easiest for me to get my hands on. The mesquites and oaks are too smoky for my taste with this smoker.

I have a friend that has one and he swears by it. I have the Green Egg. Love it, but sometimes I am just like screw it and don't want to fool with it.

Perfect, I won't need it. I might just go to Cabelas in GR and get mine, since that way I can look at all the options, along with the accessories I may or may not need.

I think I only used my green egg this past year to make pizzas on it. They're pretty good on that.

Never tried the pizzas. I have the pizza baking stone and have never used it. The best thing I like it for is steak and to throw on some hot dogs on it. They are really good.

I have a neighbor that has three big eggs built into his deck. Sits around all Sunday babysitting them but turns out a great barbecue. He is retired and has nothing else to do but sit all day smoking cigars and drinking single barrel.
