quietly put together a good season

Gotta win 4 days in a row, tough to do. We almost did about 10-11 years ago in Memphis. If not for all the overtime games(one was 4 OT's if I remember right) we probably would have. Was a really fun week in Memphis that week. Good food, good Music, and good Bball.
Best tournament site we have ever had. Ashville was fun due to winning but as you recall there was absolutely nothing open in downtown near the arena at that time. A new mall had been built outside the downtown area and all the eating and shopping places had moved out

Its funny how different Asheville is now compared to back then... Now the mall area isn't very popular and downtown is where everything is at, thanks to the 30 breweries/restaurants that opened in the last decade. I went to the SoCon tourney in Asheville last year and had a blast with some of my WCU friends.

Of all things Herrion did right, he got MU further in the CUSA tournament than anyone else.
Memphis hosted so they got their game over several hours prior to MU's game. Combine that with the 4 OT's, MU was gassed for the next morning game.
Was that the year MU got hosed by the NCAA for having the highest #RPI and not getting in?

yes. I believe we were in the 50s in RPI rank.

Yes. Instead of getting an at-large, we received an NIT bid. Early precursor of things to come, came out flat @ Middle and bounced out after one game. Kane basically put the team on his shoulders!!

Exactly, and don’t expect an RPI in the 50’s to get it done.

I really am not offering an opinion on whether it should have gottten us in or not. Just confirming the year for the poster.

Surely you aren't suggesting that RPIs in the 50s or even 60s never receive at large bids. it has happened on multiple occasions before and Syracuse got an at large once with a 70. For mid majors, I'm not certain an RPI over 50 has ever worked if that is your point, so that would be correct.

In any case, with regard to that particular season I was not as concerned about a screw job with the NCAA at large bid, but more concerned with the NIT road game to MTSU as more of a screw job given our season.

Lastly, yes an RPI in the 40s is better for a mid major to be considered but even at that, its less than 50% that actually get he at large bid if you are a mid major.

That’s because RPI was only a piece of the at large puzzle.

Tom Herrion might be the best example of "right place, right time" in the history of Herd basketball. That man couldn't buy a steak in Huntington in 2010, but a year or two later we all pretty much realized he was riding Donnie Jones' recruits.
