It seems like a lot of people are harping on Doc's upcoming recruiting class, for lack of it being ranked highly. While yes, I understand a lot of experts / fans put a lot of weight into this kinda stuff, but take a look at some players who were not highly ranked out of high school..

Rakeem Cato (**)
Evan McKelvey (**)
Clint Van Horn (*)
Ryan Yurachek (No stars)
Devon Johnson (**)
Aaron Dobson (No stars)
Tommy Shuler (**)
Gary Thompson (No Stars)
Vinny Curry (No Stars)
Darryl Roberts (No Stars)
Tiquan Lang (No Stars)
Blake Frohnapfel (Former player, I know, but still) (**)
Ryan Bee (NR)

There are probably a couple more notable players within the last few years that could be on this list.. Point being, you guys are not the ones making the recruiting visits and probably haven't watched the upcoming class's game tapes.. I think Doc has a better idea on who he wants on his team than you guys..

I don't care about recruiting rankings dropping until the product on the field reflects as such. No reason to think this coaching staff won't do really well with who we bring in.

Cato and Shuler were both 3-stars

Johnson shut his recruitment down once he committed here as soon as players were allowed to commit.

Vinny wasn't rated because his svhool shut down and he had no transcripts. He had to prop and as we know players that are NQs get lowered ratings.

Case in point Tindal out of HS was a 3-star then was dropped to a 2-star.

Thompson also had grade issues which was a factor in his rankings.

You can day all you want about stars but the corp players that came from that 2011 class that were a big part of the resurgence if this program were all 3-stars.

Yes there are Langs and Bees out there that are in small towns that get no attention from the outside world and others like Roberts that are vastly underrated studs but you atill need to target and get the higher ranked players on your team.

They don't all have to be but you need some.

Maybe he's changed his style on recruiting? Instead of 3-4 star kids with 1-2 star attitudes we've seen in the past that get dismissed, he may be looking for 2 star kids with 4 star attitudes that plan on getting better. Not really sure but on paper it looks weak compared to past classes.

Durant and the NQs sitting wont get included in the rankings but they will figure in on the field. Durant a big get and still plenty of time to add more commitments. A big DL sitting out and two maybe three 6' receivers. The sky is still hung.

I really don't put much stock in the whole Rivals star ratings. I think for a handful of teams like Alabama, Ohio State etc they do a good job. However, many teams in the P5 conferences get much higher rated classes every year and still end up being bad. Year after year they get more stars than schools like us and year after year we have a better team. I trust Doc knows what he is doing and that is all that matters.

Remember what Randy Shannon said when the U fired him after three seasons as their HC.
He said he recruited by the star system instead of letting the staff evaluate the talent and sign them with out worrying about the star ratings. They let the recruiting sites do their evaluating and he lost his job. He said that would be a lesson he would not do again; if he likes the recruit he evaluates he would sign --if no stars or five stars, but he would do the evaluating of the players.

Exactly. We need a mix.

People love to point to guys like Lang being an under-the-radar recruit but fail to mention we also signed highly rated kids like Taj Letman, Neville Hewiit, Deontay McManus and Sandley Jean-Felix in that 2013 class.

Doc once said, teams that trust recruiting services guide them are taking the easy route to recruiting. He said you've got to do your own home work.

Last week's press conference he said he was disappointed that baker had flipped to wky, but that's a part of the process....he then said, but are we quiting him for saying that? No, he said we will stay in him.

Here's Doc's quote on recruiting "stars".........

"People get hung up on "stars" in the recruiting game. @yurachek_MU85 & @ryanbee91 have proven to be 5-stars for us"

.

Hopefully we will be the first G5 with a Top 25 class in order to see if star rankings do matter.
