Marshall notebook: Redshirt freshman Devers more than carrying his weight

HUNTINGTON — It didn’t take long for Marshall offensive lineman Nate Devers to perform some eye-popping feats.
The 6-foot-3, 282-pound redshirt freshman already has bench-pressed a whopping 485 pounds as a member of the Thundering Herd and he’s already ascended to the starting right guard spot in Marshall’s offense.
Pushing up such a monumental weight obviously has its benefits. Devers feels it helps him in pass protection, as that strength allows him to punch his hands effectively to take on defensive linemen. And it’s a much different feeling than during his days at Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio...
