Marshall’s McKelvey eager for healthy, productive season

After missing the final eight games of last season with a knee injury, Marshall’s Evan McKelvey is looking forward to returning to the field.
HUNTINGTON — After sharing it for the last eight games of the 2014 season, Marshall linebacker Evan McKelvey is ready to reclaim his jersey number.
He was humbled that his Thundering Herd teammates would honor him that way after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Old Dominion. After that, one player each game would don McKelvey’s No. 31 to let him know he was still in their thoughts.
“It meant a lot to me,” McKelvey said, “so I don’t take that for granted.”
The fifth-year senior also isn’t taking for granted the time he has left on the Thundering Herd roster. He wants to be more than a source of inspiration off the field. He wants to regain his status as one of Marshall’s top defensive players, and he couldn’t wait to get going...
