So I’m in Cincinnati getting ready to watch the Reds play Milwaukee tomorrow. Leave next Friday for Hilton Head for the week. Come back five days and fly to Orlando to take my grandsons to Disney for the week. Bought tickets for drag races in Bristol in October. (Know nothing of the sport…friends talked me into it.) That leaves September open. I’m thinking Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits. I mean…fly to Chicago…rent car…drive up to Wisky. Bucket list checked off. Life is good.

I’ll be there from August 7-14. I’d love to hear your experience. Not having fast pass has changed how we will navigate the park. I’m thinking you have to be there on the ropes when they park opens or you will struggle to get in many rides.

Correct. It is harder without the Fast Pass. When we were down there recently they mentioned brining it back, maybe by fall, but they were thinking of charging each person extra for it(think they said $25 for a Fast Pass). You are likely best to pick the rides you want, get there early and pick your #1 ride and go get it when they open. Of course we went without kids and went to Epcot and enjoyed the countries and beverages each has to offer.

Oh, Epcot is undergoing a big renovation at the front of the park.

Try to get in the Star Was cue early if you are going to Hollywood Studios.

If going to Animal Kingdom and you want to ride the Avatar Flight of Passage ride, go there first and when it opens.

It is much harder without fast passes.

If you hop on a monorail they still say have to ride a mask. You don't have to wear a mask on the boat at Magi Kingdom(from Transportation Center to the park entrance). Monorail they will tell you to. Bus rides you have to wear masks. Some people don't and nothing was said. No masks anywhere else.

I have been down there 4 times in the last year. Disney is not at their A game right now but, still a good visit.

I have an app that gives us wait times and we’ve been watching them daily so we know which rides are longer waits . Your advice looks spot on. With fast pass we scheduled the three longest rides then made a list to hit at park opening. We just cleaned up in late afternoon. But without fast pass I can’t imagine hitting everything. Not in magic kingdom anyway. Epcot and Animal Kingdom don’t have as many rides so it’s easier to hit everything.

Flight of the Passage has been showing 120+ wait time almost immediately after park opens.

I’m used to letting the fast passes dictate my day as well. We went 4-5 times last year, when the attendance was way down, so it wasn’t an issue. I’ll be interested to see how wait times are too. On one hand, fast passes are great. However, I think the overall lines tend to move more efficiently when the park doesn’t pump fast pass crowds into the line every 15 minutes. I am on several Disney Facebook groups and wait times have been all over the place. Most people, though, have said they have been able to do everything they want with plenty of time to spare. I expect that will be the case. My wife and I are also going down for a long weekend around Labor Day and I’m expecting lower crowds during that time.

Flight of Passage is the best ride in all of the parks. My opinion anyway.

Head to Belize. The hurricane season lasts through October, the tourist season begins after the new year. November through Christmas is inexpensive, affordable, and quite. Go to Placencia. Nice private beaches, and unlimited day trips.

I'll probably expat in Placencia, eventually.

I did Lamanai when I went to Belize. I enjoy the old Mayan ruin sites.

We took a 3 hour boat ride through this river in Belize, seeing monkeys, manatees, bats, etc, and stopped at a local village for lunch there one time on our way to the Mayan ruins. I had wanted to see those since high school. They were so awesome.

Gk, I love Hilton Head. You can't go wrong there either.

This is my fourth year in a row, minus last year’s Covid summer. I enjoy Hilton Head and like to get in three or four rounds of golf. This is our first year in Sea Pines so I need to learn how the beach access works there. We’re walking distance to the lighthouse and everything there. We usually stay in Palmetto Dunes.

My wife and I did the boat ride back to Lamanai. That was a really nice experience. It’s interesting the grasp the Mayans had on science and engineering. Then there was the ritualistic sacrifice stuff.

Haha yep. We saw the sacrificial alter too. Each layer of the temple was built every time they had a new ruler, if I recall correctly.

Also, the way it was found was amazing. A guy in the 1950’s came to excavate the site for something completely unrelated and discovered it covered completely by dirt, rocks and grass. It was just a knoll to people for hundreds of year. Really cool to think about.

We just stayed there. The Trolley will take you to the beach. You can catch it near the light house and take it to their beach access. They have two locations for the beach. They have a big club house at the beach with restrooms, bar area, restaurant, and shop. Trolley takes you right there. I think it starts at 10am and runs past dark. Different routes to different areas but there are stops along the way, but the lighthouse is a main hub to catch it.

I played Harbour Town. It was awesome. Expensive but a great experience to do. All the golf at Hilton Head/Bluffton is exceptionally good.

I looked into Harbour Town. It’s showing closed due to aerification that week. It is expensive. The rate showed $299 which includes a forecaddie and it’s cart path only. There’s recommended tip of at least $30 as well for the caddie per person ($75 per hour with a walking caddie.) I probably would have played it if it was open that week, but I’m not sure how comfortable I’d be hacking up the course with a caddie.

We always play a few courses in Bluffton as well. We’ve played Old South every year. I want to say we’ve playe Crescent Point in Bluffton too if my memory serves me right. We like playing early to avoid the heat while the family goes to the beach and that gets us back in time to hit dinner with them. Of course most of rounds end at Hickory Tavern for a few beers and charred wings before we find our way home.

Oh...BC and Herdman...I’ll break the tie between Rise of Resistance and Flight of Passage. Lol.

When I played it is with a Fore Caddie. I was worried about the same, but SHE(yes female who played college golf) was awesome. You have one for the whole group. She lightened the mood and is there for you to have a good time. Ended up not being intimidating at all. They stand on the tee and give you distance where to hit to and then they go ahead and spot the ball. Then give advice on the next shot and distances to the green, etc. They help you read putts. You have one for the entire group. I paid 289 plus tax and they recommend a 30 dollar gratuity to the caddie.

You know what was more intimidating ? I was by myself. Got paired with another hack like me, but the other two guys were the head golf coach and assistant golf coach at a major D1 school. Like high major. The head coach had been an the captain and honorable mention All American when he was in college. He went pro and had won 9 events on some small mini tours. The assistant coach who was younger was a DIII golfer but was an All American candidate. They had plus handicaps and play from the back tees(not the Heritage tees as those were not out).

I was like oh crap, but they ended up being awesome to play with and they were good. I don't pay something like that very often(that was the most I had ever paid) but, it was really cool. The greens there are small and the course is fairly tight. The last 4 holes are incredibly hard.

Never played Old South but, have always wanted to. Played HH National, Rose Hill, Island West, and the Nicklaus Course Gold Bear Club. I think Island West is closed down.

Just at at Hickory Tavern where I live this weekend. Good place.

I’ve played Golden Bear and Island West as well I‘m pretty sure. I usually remember when I get on the course that I’ve played it before. That’s another bad thing about having a twosome when playing at the beach. You sometimes get paired up with someone. That can go either way. We were paired with another twosome once that were a little rough under the gills. One dude had a Charlie Manson haircut and his partner went 400 pounds. They played from the tips and were absolutely horrible. Most tees they never drove the ball past where we were waiting on the regulation tees. (We try to pick tees in the 6300-6500 range.) After 9 holes they went in for a hotdog and we just left them. Never saw them again.

I've never really had a bad experience getting paired with people. I have had good and bad players, but most are there to have fun. Had a few characters along the way. Best one was recently when my cousin and I were playing and the folks we get paired with are from California and had his trophy wife with there implants and she and they were proud of them. Got more odd when he told us they were in for his mothers funeral and the dad called right before and they were making arrangements. He hangs up says yeeha that was about mom and they goes on to say we are playing here today, this course tomorrow, have a tee time Tuesday, funeral Wednesday.

Oh...BC and Herdman...I’ll break the tie between Rise of Resistance and Flight of Passage. Lol.

They are both phenomenal, don’t get me wrong. Rise of the Resistance is a virtual queue only. If you need help on how to join, let me know and I will give you some tips. You must be ready to go at 7 AM. You only have about a five second window or you will fail to get a boarding group.

Definitely would like advice. My daughter was telling me that you had to do this but we don’t know the particulars. Is it done in the Disney app? Do we have to be in the park to do it? So many questions. Lol

Turn off every app or anything else that could possibly slow down your phone...music, podcasts, etc. Turn off WiFi and use your own internet. WiFi can slow you down. Be sure everybody from your party already has a profile set up in the Disney app. You have an extremely small window to get a boarding group at 7 am. If you miss out, your only other option is 1 pm when the queue opens back up. You do not have to be in the park for the 7 am boarding groups, but you do for the 1 pm boarding groups.

Log into the Disney app around 6:55 am. Go to “virtual queues” in the app, and then “join the virtual queue.” If you have another iPhone or something that tells the official time, at 6:59 and 56-57 seconds, refresh the app by pulling down on the screen. Hit join, then select your party and hit join again. That’s all there is to it, but you have a very small window, just a couple seconds, to get a boarding group. If everybody from your party isn’t selected after you hit “join,” don’t waste time by adding them. Get the boarding group with whoever is selected, then go to customer service when you get to HS to add the rest of your party to the boarding group. They will add people from your party to the group, but cannot help you if you don’t have a boarding group.

Let me know if that helped or if you have any other questions.

Shit, he's going back to work next year.

Seen it too much already even where I am. People get kind of old, retire because they can, go balls out, run out of shit to do and beg to come back.

It's OK though. They always get to. Part of life, I guess. Hell, a lot of the morons will really want him back too. They really don't know how to wipe their asses and need somebody old to tell them how.
