Ron Turner fired at FIU

Yes it is, but the coach they let go had them at least doing positive things. One down year and boom, let him go. Idiots. Never understood the Turner hire, he floundered at U. Ill.

These alphabet soup schools need stability above all else. Hire somebody like Frank Solich that is past his prime and off the big boy radar. Let him coach until he keels over on the sideline. It's worked for Ohio. Look what murderer George O'liary did at UCF. They were garbage for years but stuck with him.

Who could they get though Andy? LSU coach? I don't think Miles would even consider it to be honest. Do you bring in Art Briles so he can rebuild his resume?

The last thing a school like FIU needs in the moral cess poll of south Florida is somebody like Briles.

Fact is the only reason I can see that FIU has sports is that it has 55K students and most major graduate/professional programs (law, medicine, architecture, etc) and it seems like a school that big kinda "should" have sports. That and the huge student body means that the per capita hit that students take to pay for athletics is small. Fact is, really, in the 24/7/365 world of south Florida with 1000 things to do every day, FIU is just overlooked.

I just don't think you can win there. But the first rule of coaching is there is always some guy who thinks that HE is THE GUY who can make it work. FIU should look at a young guy who has been stuck as a cordinator for too long and who can relate to the local kids w/o building a discipline problem team.

Miles definitely isn't past his prime, he will be a good get for anyone willing to give him a shot.

I'd hire Luther Campbell, live in the spotlight for a few years, and then crash and burn with sanctions....lol

Honestly, the only coach type they can get is someone willing to do some resume building. FAU has more to offer with facilities, FIU is just terrible, never should have been added, never should have even been D1A. Until they make the investment they need in football, they will continue to stink it up and only be good enough to scare some folks. FAU on the other hand did build what they needed, they need to win and see if they can win any interest, but I have my doubts on that.

I agree with your comments about FAU relative to FIU. There is a big difference between Miami and Palm Beach and the "treasure coast". Slower. Less income disparity, more middle class people. More retirees with free time. Less Hispanic. Area has its own set of TV stations and its own newspapers that cover FAU a little. A whole lot less to do. FAU can offer "getting out" of a bad life situation to poor kids in Miami without having to go more than 50 miles from home. It has some potential. I do not see any of that at FIU.
