.....I know Sam's usual routine is to wait until Tuesday to post any comments, allowing time for the boil over of emotions and a cooling off period. But it's 2 more days until Tuesday, and frankly I'm a bit concerned. Send up a smoke signal, Sammy, to let us all know you are safe......

What?

Marshall beat a 1-5, 0-5 in I-A, 0-3 in CUSA team.

It avoided its 4th embarrassing loss, and 5th embarrassing underperformance, in a row.

Opponents’ records is 14-29, 6-29 v I-A teams.

Team now gets “bye” and then gets a 1-5, by then 1-6 and 0-6 in I-A, FIU. Two weeks of undeserved praise and talk of “improvement” and other such nonsense.

Then serious competition resumes.

sounds like you don't respect our conference mates. you are full of it quite a bit.

The SEC is the best conference. That doesn’t mean a coach can not be criticized for losing to Vanderbilt, nor praised for beating it.

Unlike the rotten super-fans, I understand there are, every year, G R E A T teams in CUSA, and winning it (something MU is unlikely to do this year) is an accomplishment.

I just know enough about football to understand what is turning a corner, improving, figuring it out; and what is playing a cupcake.

We played a cupcake.

Sam has enough psychoses to fill up a textbook! In year’s past, he was a salient, standing up for our conference mates, who were all invested in fielding competitive football teams. He said we should all recognize this and be proud of each win in CUSA……until apparently Holiday, John Holiday left the scene. Then it was like the Father, Son & Holy Ghost took the last train out town! Now? The conference is sh!t, the new HC is sh!t & the players are sh!t !! Except that: after FIU we will face competition, whatever that is supposed to mean ……..

You look foolish.

We played a team that made the USA Today Misery Index and is ranked (out of 130) 122nd. Next up is #126. Expected victories, as should have been one over #114 and a much easier one over #118.

Now you can spend the next two weeks taking about how we have “improved” and “turned a corner” and such. And, when we again play a team with a pulse, do what we have done to every team with a pulse this year. Lose.

Put another way, is there ANY DOUBT that if this team rematches with any of our 3 embarrassing losses this year, the results would not be the same?

The teams we have beaten are some of the most beatable teams in college football, even Navy. Navy is usually strong, but not this year. Not saying we can't beat some of the better teams in CUSA, but just saying that we have not proved that yet. We seem to be playing better, staying fairly healthy, and do have good attitude. But we need to beat a good team to convince some of us that we have the potential to win the conference.

That 1-5 team that you said needed more respect two days prior to the game? I’m pretty sure you made it sound like we didn’t stand a chance.

Sammy sed:
That 1-4 is based on losses to undefeated and nationally ranked SMU; the preseason pick to win the conference, and still should UAB; a LTU team that has played money games and is better than its record and UAB's real competitor; and an SEC team.

Meanwhile, we have lost to every team with a pulse we have played, plus a embarrassing loss to a 2-4 MTSU (us and something called Monmouth) and were taken to overtime at home by a 1-5 (HBCU Hampton) ODU.

No reason to not respect UNT and no real reason not to expect a beat down.

I was wrong. UNT was not as good as expected. This is a reflection on UNT, not on us.

The question, as usual, remain unanswered. Do you seriously believe that the result of any of the embarrassing beat down losses to mediocre teams or the embarrassment of being taken to OT at home by a really bad team, would be different if replayed this Saturday?

They wouldn’t. We played a cupcake. Nothing more

Should it be a reflection on us. We dominated an inferior opponent. coach HUFF, that’s his name, had a game plan that dominated a team in texas. One more win in texas and huff will have matched docs win total in the 11 years he was coach

Weird, it's like just a year ago, you would have had a mega herd-on after that win. Now, they're just a shitty team that we beat.

Would you have preferred your current head coach - Coach Charles C. Huff requested an immediate rematch spotting N Texas 5 touchdowns?

I'd say you may want to send an email complaining to your new head coach this year - Coach Charles C. Huff.

I would have preferred to have hit the season prepared, and thus avoided:

- LOSING to a 3-3 ( us, winless in I-A Tulane, a I-AA) East Carolina
- LOSING to a 4-2 (4-3 after tomorrow’s beatdown) ( us, above mentioned ECU, a I-AA, 2-4 Georgia State) Appalachian State
- LOSING to a 2-4 (us and a I-AA) Middle Tennessee State
- BEING TAKEN TO OVERTIME AT HOME by a 1-6 (HBCU I-AA) Old Dominion.

But its all better now!!! We beat 1-5 (a I-AA) NORTH TEXAS!!!!!!!! And we will almost certainly beat currently 1-5, by then probably 1-6 (a I-AA) FIU. We have TURNED THE PAGE!!! WE ARE ALL TOGETHER NOW!!!

Reality returns this November.

Only spoiled fans should expect to compete for the conference title every year.

Clearly, Marshall football isn't for you Sammy.

Hey Sam,
Tell us again about the "beatdown" APP State was about to experience....
Are you ever right about anything?

He likes to compare outcomes and scores. Maybe Sam will take a look at the CC/Appy score and the MU/Appy score. he just might have us ranked by the end of the day.

Nice upset win by Appy State. Cost me $20. Good to see they still have a goal this season, having not played themselves into obscurity with embarrassing losses to sub 100 teams like Middle Tennessee State and being taken to overtime by one of the worst teams in the country. Good job.

CCU blows (again) whatever chance it had at the “access bowl” which was a super long shot anyway (Cincinnati, SMU, would have to lose, and probably UTSA and San Diego State as well, which isn’t going to happen)

With the Appy State win our opponents’ records improve to 15-29, 7-29 vs. I-A competion.

And MIddle plays the worst team in America, UConn, this week. I like our opponents’ records’ chances of getting over 10 wins vs. I-A better and better.

In summation: "No, I'm rarely, if ever, correct. I'm also going to go ahead and start hedging on the rest of my predictions now..."

Hardly. I have pretty much pegged this wasted season since summer. Meanwhile the story from the amen chorus changes from week to week, if not day to day. Remember when this was a “rebuilding year” (even though we returned almost the entire team) ?

Pretty much their MO is to launch long treads when ever we win, at my expense, as if I didn’t want the team to win. Usually tied with Spamite level stupidity about the quality of the teams we beat (currently 108th, a I-AA, #118th in OT at home and #122nd). When we lose, which is often and embarrassing, they remain silent.

Want a “prediction”. MU will win over FIU (#126) after the bye week. This will, since I am a Herd fan, make me happy, and, since I also follow college football on a national basis, not really impress me at all, nor make me think that any of the issues that caused us to lose to #114th, have been solved at all. There will be no need to start any threads about “sharp objects” or other such nonsense.

Go Herd.

Returned the entire team??? .....New starting offensive line.....New starting LBs and DBs....New starting RB (new systems, new schemes, new discipline, new coaches)

This team isn't for you Sammy.
Why are you in this thread? This is about the results of a game.

You are on record as not caring if we win or lose.

Go Herd.
Your desire to judge/prognosticate how this season has/will play out with the caveat that it only be looked at in some sort of vacuum void of previous year's dynamics makes your look like a simpleton. Your refusal to even discuss the last half of last season and how what occurred is, at minimum, partly responsible for what we are seeing play out on the field this year is what makes you the butt of so many jokes here. The previous actions/attitudes/habits of "almost the entire team" absolutely follow them from year to year. Just because the calendar flipped doesn't mean comparisons are off limits or invalid. Learning how to finish/win needed to be retaught (and is still an ongoing process) if you can't admit that you are just dense or a liar. The complete meltdown of last year's season is fair game when discussing this year's team.
I can't imagine how unimpressed you have been with Marshall Football for well over a decade+ now, since by your own words winning against teams ranked in the 100's will "not really impress me at all". You do realize that every year, CUSA (and the MAC if you want to go back even further) has at least half the league ranked in the 100's, right? I think the rallying cry of several on this board just may be right, maybe its time to run along - Marshall Football may just not be for you.

Your refusal to even discuss the last half of last season

I discussed the heck out of last season.

Last year.

This is this year.

If you want to start a history thread, do so. I will not be participating. Not my thing.

And, with respect that discussion is not even what this thread is about. This is yet another “see we won a game, aren’t you upset now?” Thread combined with Spamite levels of delusion about what this win over one of the WORST TEAMS IN AMERICA means.

Notice how no one has even bothered to answer the question. If our three embarrassing losses and yet more embarrassing near loss to a team that looks like it was made up of guys hanging around the mall one afternoon, were replayed, do you have any illusion the results would be any different.

They would not. We played a cupcake. Enjoy it.

While you can.

You wont participate because you are a lying hypocrite, its ok - just own it. In the long history of this board, no one has ever had to start a thread and clearly lay parameters that "history" was allowed or not allowed to be talked about. For christ sake, the reason anyone is a fan (or participates in message boards of a program) is because of the history of the program, you imbecile.
No one answered your question because it is moronic. And you have no better a clue as to how the hypothetical replay of games would turn out any more than anyone else. You already showed in this thread alone that you are completely clueless when speculating and predicting "beatdowns" or wins and losses. We've been playing cupcakes for 20 years, we win some and we lose some - its just head scratching to most of us as to why losing to some of the worst teams in the nation suddenly has you so vocal when that has NEVER been the case prior to current head coach Charles Huff.

Last year Samite was saying how great CUSA was. Everybody was trying to win. This year, without a coach that Samite approves of, the conference stinks. Here's an idea. Let Samite name the FB and BB coaches and all will be well. He'll be on board backing all things Herd.

Well, this thread didn't age well, did it?

Reality returns. As predicted.
What the hell are you talking about. We lost to the pre season predicted champion of our conference and one that is still in contention to win the west. They host UTSA next week. We lost to them by a touchdown. There was no beat down like you predicted. You also said we wouldn’t win more than 4 games this year. So yeah you were and always will be wrong on a few things.

Nothing muthed said about you in his post is wrong. You don’t like Danny so you hold him to standards you never held anybody else too in basketball. You were extremely sad when we didn’t renew Holidays contract and you have been crapping on the football team and coach since he got here. Changing CUSA from a football only league that just “tries” in football, to now it’s an awful league and it’s inexcusable we lose a game in this inferior conference.

By the way props to you to show up and gloat after a Marshall loss to a good team. It really shows what a true fan you are of Marshall.

Oh, Sammy - your emotions got the better of you, and you spasmodically jump back on board 2 days early. You do realize that 2 wins vs opponents we will be favored to beat and we are the East champs? Surely your smart enough to do simple math? And then what will you do? Yeah ……glad you resurrected this thread - I had practically forgotten about it ttytt. These next 2 weeks? The roasting of Sam….anybody have a electric rotisserie I can boreee?

It took you a couple weeks of hiding and we still hold our destiny in our own hands.

Actually here most every day. Unlike you.

As to the “destiny” thing. Technically, and only as it relates to being the away team in the conference final. Win or lose = lowest and earliest bowl. Probably the Bahamas.

But do you really think anyone really wants to see this crew play UTSA? Or UAB again, should the Blazers upset the Roadrunners this Saturday?
