SBC Presser

Great news, unanimous vote:
Some interesting info:

Cost to leave C-USA, loss of distributions for this year and next.

Cost to enter SunBelt, entry fee was wavered, it would have been $80,000 annual dues. The annual dues rate for SunBelt members is $80,000.

Vote to enter the SunBelt conference on or before July 1, 2023.

It's time......................... to step up

Its is all mostly the same platitude tall. The real take aways are:

- SBC will add men’s soccer. Three current SBC members play it, plus us, ODU, and JMU. While they were not mentioned, I would assume UK and USC would likewise move over.

- SBC is committed to neutral site championships, except for football. IMHO, this is logical.

- MU is sold on the ESPN deal.

- MU could leave CUSA sooner. Nobody said anything thing directly, but IMHO, there are two scenarios that make this possible.

1) CUSA collapses. If MTSU and WKU join the MAC, no body really wants to play out a lame duck year, now do they?

2) ESPN, which is running things, makes a deal. This really does not directly involve us, but rather the move up of the Big 2 to the SEC, and the associated reshuffle of the snake oil AAC conference and remnant “Big” 12. ESPN would really rather just see everything move on, but that would cost some money.

The deals here are the other networks. CBS still has two years left on its “best game from the best conference” 3:30 package (after which the SEC will become a 100% ESPN conference). The Big 12 deal is split between Disney and Fox, and why would either want to pay the same $$ when 50 to 60% of the TV value has moved to the SEC; and obviously Fox would like to keep the Big 2 for the contract period. And then the AAC, which is 100% ESPN, ESPN certainly is not going to pay the same price for the joke AAC 2.0.
