Why? Public outcry over the show.

What a bunch of vaginas. Isn't that the main attraction of Sea World? Shamu and Namu, the killer whales?

California is full of fruit cakes, sissies, pinkos, and left wing commies.

Maybe it will fall in the ocean and they can see real killer whales.

Won't be long and the limp wristed bastages will go after the whales in Florida.

Bunch of sissy kids and sissy parents.

It's pretty effed up to keep whales, dolphins & other free roaming aquatic life pinned up. 70% of the planet is covered in water & we trap them in a tank for children's entertainment.

Well, would they rather be out there getting eaten by something 2 days into life? Looks like a decent gig to me. Meals every day. Nothing else going to kill you.

Seriously. Hell with them. Turn them lose. Last time I was there the show sucked anyway. Close the zoos too while we are at it. Taxpayer boondoggles. Send the wild life back to Africa. The people are starving over there. Maybe they can get at least one meal out of it.

What the chances of surviving to start with?
By all estimates, a hell of a lot longer than in captivity. The annual mortality rate of orcas is two & a half times higher in captivity. Dolphins can be trained & released into the wild but by that time, their time in captivity (which they shouldn't have been held to begin with) pretty much has socially effed them up. But at least they're free.

If Sea World had an ocean side attraction & these things were free to come & go as they please, I wouldn't have have a problem with it. But you can't take a highly intelligent animal that is supposed to swim 100 miles in an average day, confine it to a small tank, feed it processed crap & think that's okay.

I can. If I am dropping $50 to go to Sea World then I want to see a killer whale. This is nothing more than liberal thinking ruining everything....again.

What's next? Dolphins? The Walrus? The horses that Budweiser owns? They should be free and on the prairie.

How do we know the animal is not happy? It is a freakin' animal.

Watch the documentary "Blackfish" they'll tell you they're not happy .

Let's not pretend that Sea World is caving to the animal rights activist. Sea World is a corporation whose purpose is to make money. The increased liability as a direct result of the rash of deaths from these captive whales along with a decrease of attendance due to the negative publicity is what is driving this thing. Eliminating the show is more about self preservation than a forced hand. Why do you think Sea World Orlando is adding a roller coaster to their park? It's about driving profits. It's not like a roller coaster fits the theme of the park.

On a side note it's a little naive to believe that these whales are comfortable in their environment. Captivity goes against thousands of years of evolution. These creatures evolved to function in the vastness of the ocean. The stress of captivity is obvious. They die at a rate of 2 1/2 times more than their counterparts not in captivity. Now...I'm not building a case for or against Sea World. I'm just saying that to insinuate that a major corporation is being driven by anything more than profit is misguided.

I'm undecided on this issue. However, if you take the position that these whales should be freed, doesn't the same logic dictate the closing of zoos and the circus? How about household pets? Does it, or should it, extend that far? If not, why? Is there a line, and if so, where is it?

I honestly think we should only keep these animals captive if it helps the species survive. Endangered species that we as humans have hunted and killed almost to extinction should be kept and aided in reproduction. Aside from that, I get no real enjoyment from a zoo. Now, take me to a real no BS safari where I can watch a lion take down a live animal I'm game. That would be friggin awesome.

Of course its about profit. Those that try and suggest "liberal" initiatives are not about profiting for their causes and diminishing profit opportunities for others also miss a larger point.

The problem with captivity is that more whales die in it than are born. It wasn't until 1985 the first whale that was born in captivity actually lived. So right now you couldn't build a case for preservation of the specie.

And as far as safaris go...watch "Battle at Kruger"...a video taken on a safari with lions and water buffalo. It might be one of the neatest nature videos ever. I guarantee you'll love it.

Here you go...
