Second Basketball Player in Portal

I still think Marko, Eerly or Kinsey may leave. Possibly Braun. jmo. I think Goran stays.

I think Early stays and probably starts next year... Kinsey goes in the draft... As for Seranac and Miladinovic, I have no idea on either.

I think the "stays" are -- Taylor, Early, Braun, OAK, Toussaint, McKey, Fricks
The "gones" are -- George, Byers, Kinsey, Dillon, Collins
The "maybes" are -- Seranac, Miladinovic

Early has the tools. I think he just needs to get more comfortable. I hope he stays. He needs to be all in and committed to being in great shape for more minutes. If Kinsey tries for the draft, I am just not sure he will make it. Personally, I'd like for him to come back, focus on becoming a better shooter and play out his senior year.

Whatever happens, DD will need to get 2-3 difference makers from the portal to come in and start, or next season won't be any better than this one. jmho

The "stays" are a decent core. The "maybes" don't bring much to the table, IMHO but where in D-1 could they possibly land? My hunch is they'll be back as well.

The remaining DD defenders have found their story. I love how it is somehow possible for DD, this bumptious cornpone HS phys ed teacher and coach is going to get difference makers out of this portal.

Why? Why would any player with a choice want to play for this token effort program? The answer, of course, is that none would. So we will get guys with no other choices. The media (Landon) will hype them up, but they will not be DI level talent, and we will hit the floor and get smacked down in one of the bottom basketball conferences. There is no reason for any player that wants to either improve his play, or win, to come here, of all places.

He may or may not get any decent kids. All we can do is hope. Then after the 22-23 season, everyone can start speculating who the new HC will be .

I think the issue here is the definition of "difference maker"... A kid that couldn't get on the floor at a P5 school could be a "difference maker" at Marshall, as could a really good kid from a DII school looking to move up.

Do I think DD is going to suddenly right the ship and turn the program around in the next 6 months -- No. Do I think he could find one serviceable big man and one really good 3-pt shooter that could add to the offense -- Maybe.

Pretty much nailed it.

He has yet to find one good big man. Needs to get away from the Serbs.

P5 (actually a football term, certainly there is a different pecking order in basketball, better terms are “multi bid conferences”) to the SBC has three-fourths of a division between there and here. Almost 20 conferences between the multi-bid conferences and the SBC and the other 15 and 16 seed conferences.

So if a kid cannot make impact in the Big 10 he might in the A-10 or the MVC, or lots of places before you find the SBC, and then a token effort program in said SBC, with a coach whose SUPPORTERS think is being given one more year for some sort of swan song.

We, and yes, recruiting the coalfields is ignorant, will end up with what we have now. Non-DI level talent.

Early needs to commit to reshaping his body weight in order to be a D1 backcourt player.

What? We had a walking, living FOUL LANE in Bennett, but couldn't develop him. There is just so much failure all over the place. Ever see Ghostbusters 2 when the angry ectoplasm leaked out all over the museum. Yep...that's the cam only is is ectofailure.

DD system doesn’t really allow for a “big”. A true center doesn’t belong in his system, they can’t keep up with running up and down the court. That’s why Peneva was good in his system, because he was long and could shoot/run.

Kinsey might enter the draft, it won’t get drafted. He had terrible numbers this year, but I think he will enter the portal… only deciding factor will be if he has a gf or anything here that is staying too.

Early has a ton of promise, he just needs confidence, like someone else said. He will be our next point.

I just don’t have a good feeling about next year, tbh.

Sarenac and Miladinovic were both contributors down the stretch IMHO, I thought both grew significantly last year. Miladinovic needs specific big man coaching, don't know that we have the coaching talent on the bench to meet his needs though.

Sarenac played very well at times, a real hustler on defense and can shoot when in sync.

I have no doubt both would fare better than we think in the portal.

Thank you so much for such an uplifting, positive message. You are doing a great job of promoting Marshall. NOT!

Lumping Seranac and Miladinovic together because they are both Euro players is silly... Seranac as a bench 3-and-D guy is/will be fine... Miladinovic on the other hand doesn't offer much at all. Not a good outside shooter, 6'11 and doesn't protect the rim or rebound much. Also a terrible man-on-man defender in the paint.

Early needs to develop his BALL HANDLING skills if he is ever going to make a difference. He is a turnover machine. Kinsey will not likely transfer anywhere as he could never find another coach to give him the freedom to take fade away 18 footers all night with ZERO accountability. Dantoni needs to realize that not all shots are good shots. Kinda seems like a parent that is reluctant to discipline their favorite child.... does more harm than good and that showed in his shooting performance this past year. He is not a worse shooter but just took terrible shots. He has to become a much better shooter and continue to gain strength to have any shot in NBA.

Agree with RhinoD. Marco has potential, especially because of his height, as a SG. Goran is just too slow and immobile. But I assume Dan will keep both next season. Watching NCAA tournament shows us how effective teams can be if they have a couple of leapers to get rebounds and score in the paint. This type of player can never be a part of Dan's program. He would immediately want to teach them to shoot the three. So we will continue to rely on three-point shooting to win games. Most winning programs have a combination of inside and outside games.

If you want a circle jerk of delusional know-nothings who just talk about how great “their” team is, there are 100 USPAM boards out there.

Meanwhile, those of us who know this sport know that DD must go, most of his non-DI level talent must be run off, and nobody in the basketball office can be retained. Get a good coach in here and we can be a force in the SBC.
