Seriously!

COY awards are typically passed out based on whomever happened to have the best overall record, particularly in smaller conferences, where most that vote couldn't even list out half of who the coaches even are.

For example, if this was a media award, then whomever the poor soul is that works for the Dallas Morning News, was informed he needed to place a vote, so he just went to the conference standings, saw a team with a 7-2 record, and then googled to see who the coach of that team was, and then replied back that he's voting for some guy named after a famous gunslinger.

Both well deserved awards. COY is often a reflection of who did more than expected. And that was us this year.

Of course, the superfan turned inward and rotten minority, who expect Marshall to win every game but believe that that is no accomplishment will never accept Doc, or whoever comes after him, or after him. They have the fandom of a 12 year old.

Oh? C-USA didn't release a preseason media poll other than for all-conference teams, so let's look at leading college football media that made predictions:

Athlon:

Marshall - 2nd in the East
UTSA - 6th in the West

Collegefootballnews.com:

Marshall - 2nd in the East
UTSA - 6th in the West

In reality, Marshall finished one spot higher than what most predicted. UTSA finished four spots higher than what most predicted.

Jeff Traylor, based on your description of the award, is C-USA's Coach of the Year.

(somebody should copy-and-paste this so Samantha actually sees it)
