Rivalry Weekend is one of the best weekends for college football fans throughout the country, unless you happen to be a fan of one of the two major programs in West Virginia! So, while Kansas plays Kansas State, Auburn plays Alabama, Florida hosts FSU, VT vs VA, GA vs GT, etc, etc. Marshall goes against Western Kentucky while WVU plays Iowa State. Forget the conference tie-in argument, many of the "Rivalry" games are out of conference contests!

Nope, cell phone and large fingers. Nice burn though! I would deflect as much as possible as well!

all p5's vs. p5's. Fact

once again only a hilljack would miss the significance of this OP. having the 2 schools play is good for the state. No need to say that it will just go over their heads.

It's more of a Coca Cola area up here but I do like the occasional Mt. Dew. It's a WV birth right I think, lol.

Silly SOB still thinks he's in the Big Least, playing Pitt. Pardon me, pal, but that Panther pissed in your face and jumped over you into the ACC, And they are farther north than Morganhole!

This thread was not intended to put either school or their respective fans down. Just wanted to point out how sad it is that Marshall and WVU do not have an annual "rivalry" game, while most other intra-state schools do! The other teams are not always in the same conference, maybe not even of similar size or SOS, but they PLAY the GAME! IMHO, it simply makes sense for Marshall and WVU to play each other every year and the game would benefit both schools!

If we were only in conference usa.

This is the most specious argument eer/p5 fans make about G5 SOS. If you are going to put WVU in conference USA then you must also take away the Big 12 money, and have a budget equivalent to Marshall's. If you do that, would WVU be able to dominate c-usa? Who knows. Same thing is true when the argument is made "if marshall were in the Big 12 they wouldn't win a game!"

Basically, what im getting at here is this: your argument is completely invalid. As it is, your rivals are Iowa State and Kansas. Why wouldn't WVU play marshall every year? I would like an intelligent response.

Ok. Since you asked. Because a win against Marshall generally means nothing and a loss is devistating in most years. Marshall fans always want to point to us playing Liberty, etc. What they never bring up is those games are always at home. I maintain that I have zero problems playing Marshall once a year in Morgantown and occasionally in Huntington but a true home and home every year does not serve our interest, only Marshall's. Someday that may change, who knows. That's not ment to be smack, just how most of us see things.

Sorry pal, don't buy it at all! Since moving up, Marshall has proven to be a competitive opponent to such programs as UGA, Ohio State, Tennessee and, of course, WVU. While gaining victories at Clemson, South Carolina and Kansas State! The truth, as most of us wearing the Green and White see it, is that WVU is just plain afraid to play Marshall on a regular basis. Every program wants to play a competitive schedule primarily against teams of equal or greater talent and I do not blame WVU for wanting that as much as we do. However, one cannot argue the fact that the Eers play some weaker teams every year (as does Marshall). I say it is time to stop the excuses and play the game. To paraphrase what I said in the original post, it is a shame that our mutual fans cannot enjoy the same intra-state rivalry as many other schools do every year on this weekend! Most likely WVU will win most of the games. But taking a win against Marshall for granted? Big mistake, all we want is the opportunity to prove it to you!

As I said, Marshall/WVU at Mountaineer Field every year and I'm in, sign me up....make it a 20 game contract for all I care, I would much rather start the year with you guys than a school like Liberty, but they don't expect a return game. Otherwise, just keep scheduling Pitt/Louisville for 2 game scheds.
