This should make WVU fans happy. Probably a lot of them went there (because we know they don't attend WVU)
Great win for Shepherd! GVSU is a Division I I powerhouse. Notre Dame's Brian Kellys once coached there.
Fairmont State won the NAIA national championship in 66 or 67. That predated Division I I membership.

They play at the D2 level, you can't be serious. Both Marshall and WVU would beat them by Atleast 30
Shepherd almost gave the game away late. Grand Valley scored a TD, with less than a minute to play, to make it 34-32. Then on the first 2 point conversion try, Shepherd was flagged for pass interference and it was a no doubt call too. Then on the second 2 point conversion try, Shepherd committed another pass interference but no flag was thrown.
I'm sorry. I meant it was the first time any of the conference schools have made it to the NC in football since the jump to D2.
Pretty sure West Liberty is the only team to make it to the NC in basketball. So in the 2 major sports, this is only the 2nd time it has happened for the entire conference.
Concord made semis in football last year. Shepherd has been to the semis a few times and to the elite 8 (regional championship) multiple times. They have a great football program up there. In basketball West Liberty is the only team from the conference to make elite 8, but have done it multiple times to go along with multiple final 4s. I think one of the teams might have played West Liberty in the Sweet 16 (regional championship) but not sure.
Its very impressive what Shepherd has accomplished. The maximum amount of scholarships in D2 is 36 per team. Shepherd has around 20 or so scholarships, might even be less than 20. GVSU no doubt has the full 36. That is why SR3 and SR4 are so good. Every school in that region has max scholarships.
Not many in the MEC is even close to max scholarships in football. In basketball, most of them are max scholarship and it shows. The MEC is a very solid basketball conference. Right now West Lib is #1 in nation, Fairmont was #8 last I saw. The conference regularly gets 3-4 teams in the tournament.
I would say that one of the things that hurts them in football is just how many D2 football schools there are in WV. For a population of 1.8 million, there is a crap ton of schools in our state. The talent pool gets diluted between 8-10 teams instead of the best going to 4-5 teams.

Nice to see one blue and gold team from WV that's capable of winning a national title.
I didn't see that the ball was tipped. I was following the game on watchespn while watching the FCS quarterfinal game on the TV.
I don't know how much he actually plays for them.. Looking at the stats they have 5 receivers with more catches and yards than AJL.. AJL has just 17 receptions on the year for 246 yards.
