How good is Ole Miss again?

Memphis looks like old CUSA version of themselves at this moment.

Marshall was better last year than ANY AAC team this year OR last. In fact it's a damn shame BOISE got the nod over us looking back at the over hyped MWC.

Another funny joke is that the two conferences that are not primarily contracted with ESPN.........

Are outside of the 4 team playoff.

But yet Alabama, losing to a 3 loss Ole Miss.........passes the eye test.

I am not saying it is all a sham, but can you honestly tell me that the media (ESPN) hasn't swayed some minds?

Dude we can't beat Ohio or Middle Tenn State.

Alabama would beat us like a step child.

Really have no idea what last years team had to do with ole miss and Memphis this season?

The quality loss bullshit or over hyped P5 wins. It's all separate and intertwined arguments.

I still believe we got hosed, hard to watch a team be 13th this year because of a win over a 7-3 team.

Not really sure where you are going with this thread but here goes:

Ole Miss is pretty darned good.......7-3 with a win over Alabama and lost today by 1 pt in OT

Memphis lost to a very good Navy team (since it appears you've been reading some of what I write, you likely read about a week or so ago, I said the AAC's worst nightmare is that they beat each other up and each of the front runners has to play Navy who could beat any of them.

Marshall was VERY good last year, but you can't really say we were better than ANY AAC team this year, you just have NOTHING to base that on other than fan bias, just NO way to know.

I don't believe Boise would have gotten the vote over us had we done our jobs and beaten WKU at home......interesting how in your analysis we can lose to a 4 loss WKU team and we are still better than anyone else and Memphis can lose to a 7-1 Navy and they've returned to their old CUSA version of themselves.

I assume you mean Big XII and Pac 12, that comment makes no sense.

Sure the media changes some minds, look at Politics, the media there ALWAYS tries to set the agenda for voters........ smart voters don't fall for it and make up their own minds..........others, not so much

Last observation on this: We all know how hard it is to go undefeated!!! After last year we/MU fans know it WELL! you seem to want to evaluate other teams by a single loss against the entire body of their wins, but in your evaluation we were singled out for losing and that was wrong......How do you equate that?

Hope this responds to your questions

Wait!!! What???? You mean THE WHOLE SEASON COUNTS????? It is not appropriate to crown the THE AMERICAN!!!! non-thing as great because, in mid-October a very mediocre mid-major Memphis beat what turns out to be, probably the 5th place team in an SEC division, itself having a fluke win over a very ordinary looking Alabama? Who knew? And the lead story in the Commercial Appeal today? Touting the fact that Memphis (at $17 per) ALMOST sold out, would have been the first non-SEC (Memphis marketing is be the local appearance of nearby SEC teams and sell seats to the visitors) since 1989. Wow.

So a whole season counts?

Who knew?

Meanwhile the Houston Chronicle uses the journalistic word for "not really" in saying Houston got an "announced" crowd of only 9000 empty seats for its titanic struggle.

The non-thing. THE AMERICAN!!!!! Fanless. And thus able to take ESPN's money to play at any time. Nobody is coming anyway.

Meanwhile, back at Bristol, the hype machine moves on to touting, in addition to "eye test passing" loser Alabama, its new mid-major hero in Houston. Plan B is Navy. Plan C is to return to the pre-season (this season and every season) the ESPN/Boise State truck drivers.

We have always been at war with East Asia. What ever.

SamC, you rant and rant!!!! take a look around our league, did you see the crowd at MTSU? This is G5 football in November. The number of people in the stands has little to do with the quality of the team or football on the field. You need a new metric.

Here you go with your Plan A, Plan B, Plan C stuff again.........do you realize this is just a fantasy played out in your own head?

and your logic on Memphis tickets is absurd, only you would look at a positive and try to argue it into a negative.... downright silly. Is Memphis a program on the build or a flash in the pan, time will tell (not SamC) but they are clearly (program wise) light years ahead of where they were just a few years ago you desperately try to dismiss that, again, just plain silly

Sam, take a deep breath, step back and try to see the entire forest, you'll appreciate things so much more!! I know you don't realize it but every time you write your little AMERICAN!!!! tirades you look less and less credible, interpreting stats and pictures only in ways you think help your arguments, they don't, they just re-enforce that you can't get beyond your own bias. Example, if Houston drew less than 9000, it only says something about their fans and playing in an NFL/ SEC /Big XII city, how does Rice draw there? no matter, it says nothing about the quality of their football team, just like when Rice beat us there in front of hundreds not thousands, they were a really good football team but no fan base. When you use fan support to bolster your argument, what does that say about our league and all of the G5 leagues by implication?

SamC, Houston had an announced crowd of over 32,000 yesterday. If, in your opinion, the AAC is fanless... What does that say about CUSA?

Umm, that we are all equal, and all of this THE AMERICAN!!!! is the 6th major, and we should spend $7M (which we DO NOT HAVE) to beg for a lateral transfer, and all of Arseco's idiotic spew is just so much ho-ha. And, sad to say, ESPN's hype of its conferences and ignoring of CUSA was not only wrong, its was just another part of the ho-ha.

Marshall was exposed yesterday. Despite our hopes, we are a very ordinary team and, if we did not know it already, are going to play in Boca.

Memphis was exposed yesterday. Despite the hopes of all dozen of its fans, it is a very ordinary team, and will also play in Boca or St. Pete or whatever.

As was Toledo. As was Temple. And so on. That is why it was wrong to start crowing about this THE AMERICAN!!!!! non-thing in mid-October.

Fact is, WIN ALL YOUR GAMES from ANY of the Group of Five and go to this access bowl. Lose once, play in Boca. The same. Equal. No one better than the other.

The only difference that I see between this THE AMERICAN!!!! and CUSA is, I am sorry to say, fan support. The AAC can afford to take ESPN's money and play whenever. Nobody is coming anyway. We cannot. We have several programs that have a solid capacity to put butts in seats if they have a good product. Cincinnati for example GIVES tickets away and could not draw flies if its was 11-0. Nobody f-ing cares. Same in Houston, Memphis, Philly, New Orleans, and so on.

I love this program and, IMHO, we have the right AD and the right coach for right now, and we are defiantly in the right conference. The last thing we need to do is either get down on the combined weight of THE AMERICAN!!!!!'s idiotic "we are the tallest midget" idiocy and the non-alumni WVU fan's petty jealousy of "well, Doc is not really a coach" and "Marshall does not play anybody" and do something foolish, either to our coach, our AD or our conference.

(And, BTW, if you really think Memphis isn't a flash in the pan, you know less about football than I thought you did. Coach will get a good job, lucky finds graduate, so on. Seen this 100 times before, so have you.)

And GO TIGERS!!!

And GO TIGERS!!!

First, like so many of your "facts", we won't be going to Boca since it isn't a CUSA Bowl this year, St. Pete or Miami are likely.

Marshall was exposed by Ohio and MTSU, a 5-4 and 4-5 teams.........that is exposed, no question!!

but Memphis beaten by a 7-1 Navy team that is 5-0 in the conference..........exposed? come on

Temple beaten by #8 Notre Dame, arguably on their last offensive play of the game, in a game they actually had a chance to win with 1:30 to go in the game..............exposed? come on!!
SamC, statements like this is why NO ONE takes you seriously any more!!!!!

Cincinnati sold out multiple games when they were winning and has gone to BCS bowls, we would love to play them regularly and their basketball is reason alone to have them in a conference..........you exaggerate ridiculously.... Again, this is why NO ONE takes you seriously anymore

Your "spew" has become tiresome!

To The Real Sam C and dshoe. Why don't both of you start your own personal board - just you two, and take your AAC vs CUSA argument there and stay the hell off her. Both of you are tiresome - but entertaining for a couple of kindergarten kids.

SamC, Houston had an announced crowd of over 32,000 yesterday. If, in your opinion, the AAC is fanless... What does that say about CUSA?

Houston crowd wasn't anywhere close to that, I watched some of that game, a game Cincy handed to them

Exactly. Which is why the beat writer used the journalism weasel word "announced". In the newspaper, when they say "died at home" and don't list a cause, you killed yourself; when you are a male and they never list an occupation, you were a life welfarist; when they list another male as a "special friend" or "long time companion", then you were a homosexual. And when a sports writer says the attendance was "announced" it their nice way of saying "BS". And that is not picking on Houston. Happens all over, in all sports.

As to Cincinnati, "sell out" implies a sale. An exchange of money. Everybody knows that UC tickets have no economic value. You can get all you want simply for the asking.

Alabama just beat a damn good LSU team by 2 TDs and basically made perhaps the best RB in college football a non-factor in the ball game.. Yeah I'd say they pass the eye test

4 AAC teams ranked in AP and Coaches Poll today. Are the voters frome these two polls drinking the AAC cool aid or do they think that league has quality teams that not as bad as you believe them to be?

Sam C I agree with your point about crowning any G5 untill the season plays out. However, like us some of the schools do have big games. I personally watched a full house at Cincy for the Miami of Fl game. I also saw a scant crowd for the Temple vs SMU game. Most G5 schools have low attended games and bigger turn outs vs bigger name opponents. I am not sure that Marshall should leave C-USA for the American since I agree the path to a NYD6 is the same. However, DSHOE is right- they are having a great season as a conference. Navy beating Memphis yesterday is not the same as WKU beating us last year. The American is having a great season. Is it sustainable after this year? I doubt it, but they are getting it done on the field. If they could do this every year for 4-5 years then maybe we should beg to come in. Last year the MWC had a big year. This year not so big. Maybe C-USA will have a big year next year, who knows?

why don't you just not read the posts and be a little more civil in your approach? Who is being childish here?

Or better, why not contribute instead of complaining? just a thought

Clearly CUSA (led by Marshall) had the better year last year...... you are right

Why dshoe? Can't avoid you two. Seriously take it elsewhere.

You get into plenty of arguments yourself, I don't always agree with Shoe but I enjoy seeing a perspective with seasoned insight...And its damn funny to see a shoe post followed by THE AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which is the same as CUSA!!!!!!!!!!! In fact our bottom 8 are better than there bottom 8. We thankfully don't have a team that's costing a bar free booze until they win.

Hell, the best they could name a NEW conference is the American Athletic Conference?? After robbing most of your stock from Conference USA? They basically stole a McDonalds franchise, swapped the name to McDaniels and are playing pretend that they're something different.

Ask yourself this if you are a football recruit. Where would you rather play at:

Houston, ECU, Cinci, UCF, etc. or FIU, FAU, Charlotte, UAB, etc.

That's the problem in the long run. The quality in the American will surpass CUSA. Recruits want to play at the biggest name school possible(for the most part). The AAC schools have bigger budgets, bigger fan bases, more tradition, better tv coverage, and better PERCEPTION. How well did we compete in the original CUSA? Not very well when it was the same teams that are now in the AAC. We would have to step it up to compete if we moved. Year in and year out it will be a better league than CUSA.

Agreed 100%. When comparing the two just on name alone it is like comparing a sirloin to a filet. Anyone who would argue differently is just being foolish.

Dshoe knows what he's talking about is very informative and by far one of my favorite posters on here. He's experienced a lot, loves the Herd and I enjoy reading his posts. There was a 1992 National Championship Ring with Shoemaker on the side on display in a glass case at the Hall of Fame Cafe for years. I'm sure it was his on loan, not many people on here can say they earned one of those.

Thanks, and you are right, that is my ring (it was a gift from the Football staff and the University) and I still maintain a small ownership position in the Hall of Fame Cafe.
