So...

Memory foam, hybrid, or springs?

Do I go high end (excess of $4000) or is that a waste of money?

Temper-Pedic or one of the cheaper brands like Sealy or Serta?

I’ve kept my current mattress way past it’s shelf life and I’m starting to feel like I’ve been in a car wreck every morning I get out of bed. I have lower back and hip pain that really diminished while I was on vacation the last few weeks leading me to believe that my mattress is a big part of the issue. From my cursory research, memory foam seems to be the best option for back issues but I’m concerned that it might sleep hot. My current mattress is a pillow top and it sleeps hot...which I hate. Some of the mattresses have cooling technology features but I have no clue whether they’re effective.

I was kind of shocked when I visited MattressFIrm and looked at the prices. Most of the Temper-Pedics started close to $4000 and went up with every bell and whistle you added. And from what I understand the prices are negotiable, sort of like cars...which I hate.

The adage goes, don’t go cheap on what comes between you and the ground (shoes, tires, mattresses, and in rifle’s case...hot celebrities). But I’d love to hear some opinions on it. What are your opinions on buying a mattress? Splurge? Or am I wasting money?

I love my Costco memory foam (Novaform Valentina King memory foam). I think it was around $800. Even if it’s not durable you could replace it multiple times and still be less then a higher end one.

If you’re in WV believe Costco will deliver for free as an out of town member.

Does it sleep hot? I worry about how memory foam envelopes your body. But from everything I've read, it is the best for back support.

Maybe, but I’m always freezing and often sleep in pajama pants like some old decrepit man. So I’m not the best to ask on that.

I bought it on the recommendation from a friend with back issues that loved it and my wife and I love it - though she thinks it’s a tad too soft and I think I’d prefer it to be even softer...so it’s a perfect compromise.

My sons twin bed is a Tuft and Needle memory foam and I don’t like it though. It’s way too firm and hurts my hip (I’m a side sleeper).

I have a memory foam that is like a craft-matic adjustable bed. Not that brand, but something like that. I really like it. Didn't drop 4 grand on it, but it was not cheap. Has the vibrating option, tilt on the feet and head. Oh, and the blue light underneat of it for when mrs herdman wants to ride space mountain.

Have another one with memory foam as well. Not cheap either.

Don't go cheap on your bed.

That's all my Wife does in a store. Look at beds. 4000 for a bed is a rip off..Your mattress is all that matters. When you get older a lot of folks gain weight. So you need the kind of mattress that when your Wife rumbles out of bed through the night to pee for the 4th time you won't feel her or hear her moving.

She probably needs to be spaced out even if its a short run to the top of Herdman mountain. I am

Temperpedic cooling series. You will NOT be disappointed. I'm not one for extravagant purchases, but we bought one 3 years ago and I swear it is the best investment I've ever made. The only issue I have with it is that I like it so well, I have a terrible time sleeping on anything else, making resting while traveling or vacationing difficult.

My wife and I bought a really nice King matress set from Denver Mattress last year. I think the price was around $2,700.00 or so, and we got them down to around $2,300.00, plus having them toss in additional things, like mattress protector, sheets, pillows, etc. When we went, we tried out pretty much everything they offer, and they were really good at figuring out what's best for you. Most people scoff at spending thousands of dollars when it comes to their bed, but if you think about it, you're spending a third of your life on that bed. In comparison, folks will spend $40,000 to $50,000 on a car they spend only a fraction of their life in.

i spent ~$400 on a memory foam mattress a couple years ago and love it. can't remember the name of it, just remember googling top rated memory foam mattresses and ordered the cheapest one in the top 5, mainly because i figured it had to be better than what we had and i wanted to try a memory foam and figured if i didn't like it for $400, i could take it to the cabin and get something better for home. i still have it at home.

and, it doesn't sleep hot.

If you don't mind, look at the label/tag when you get a chance, please.
Thanks.

No, but they call me Man O War for a reason.

Check out site like sleep Sherpa and sleepopolis for reviews of various mattress types memory foam latex hybrid etc and from all price points. They do a decent job of trying to be objective when they review a mattress

I can't wait to see the next thing Rifle teaches you.

I know you are proud of your job as moderator on this board of high level intellectual discussions. I'll do better.

Next trip to wallmart, or next mattress purchase I'll share the information about my experiences. If that doesn't happen soon, I'll go discuss all the hot chicks I banged in my life to better fit in. IF none of that works, I'll got to left wing websites and post repeated links about the SC "Russia" investigation. I think that covers contribution on Pullman.

I’m proud to misspell it, don’t frequent the place. No excuse for that one other than quick post on a phone.

I will say, your spelling is impressive

arctic dreams 10" by Brooklyn bedding. came in a box long as the bed is wide and about 15"x 15", if that. pretty cool the way it unrolled and expanded after cutting the plastic off.

Damn you are angry. I guess I’m the first person to ever be a day off.

If it makes you feel better, it sure feels like Saturday to me today
Which has nothing to do with what a dumb motherfvcker you are. Any idea what day of the week it is?

Man it’s not worth getting angry, you are better than that. What can I say, when you fly a lot and get a lot of 3 and 4 day weekends, sometimes after a few beers you are off a day,, especially when not working the next day.

I’m sure it’s easier for you as you probably have a calendar up in your cube next to the nascar poster.

88's right . . . you have been a bit on edge lately. ban yourself and take a break. hell, it's beer day, take the afternoon off and get beered up.

you know what's sad . . . it's beer day and i'm probably not going to have a beer today. guess i'll have to maybe celebrate tomorrow.

It would be a bad look to take a half day when I just came back from a week and a half off on Wednesday.

I'm not on edge. I'm realizing how dumb a couple of these supposed MU grads are and I am starting to question my annual donations to educate what appears to be the uneducatable. Forget it, that money is now going in the travel and booze fund.
