Very interesting read... The Knight Commission has spent the last two years looking into how to reform college athletics under a model that works for football (which makes tons of money) and all the other sports as the divide continues to grow.
Their recommendation? - Cap the FBS with the amount of teams it has now and split from the NCAA. Create a new governing body to cover FBS football only and leave everything else alone under the current NCAA model (NCAA basketball tournament, lower divisions of football, included).
Basically, it sounds like the government is going to step in and make this happen at some point, if the NCAA doesn't figure a way to do it amicably in the very near future.
