SHR: nice dig at C-USA

This article is discussing how stupid the new XFL names are. And this line pops up:

The names are, on the whole, bland as paste. If you can’t tell right off the bat from a team’s name whether that team belongs in the CFL or roller derby or Conference USA, you’ve fvcked up.

And I'm pretty sure Tampa Bay's logo is a green and yellow vagina. It even has labia:

The Tampa Bay Vajay-Jays....now there's a team we could all root for.

They should have referenced the Sun Belt instead

This must have been a mistake. Sam says CUSA has a positive national perception... just a hair behind the Mountain West/American.

Reading comprehension not your strong suit, right. The author of the piece was apparently taking a dig at some of the odd names in CUSA, such as UAB "Blazers" with a dragon logo (and if the University of Alabama System's lawyers don't have suit papers filed over the logo by Monday, they should be fired), UNCC 49ers with a pick axe (when the Charlotte gold rush was 1822); Hilltoppers with a whateverthe f***thatthingis mascot and others, arguabably including us. He was hating on the logos. Not the programs.

But go on, hate CUSA. Tell me again why you are a Marshall fan?

I like Marshall. Don't give a **** about the conference.

I give this 2 years.

I like your optimism! As a fan of Vince McMahon's other professional endeavor, I have to say he hasn't been in tip-top mental shape as of late, and this reboot of the XFL seems less like fixing the mistakes of the past than just a product of him being old and deluded enough to take another stab at it. I'll be surprised if they complete the first season.

Especially since it is a sinking ship. I'm dying to get back to the MAC.... I hope that happens someday. There will be revenue arguments, but those people never account for trend. The MAC is a good local product that will always be. CUSA used to be a national product, and since they are falling out of that light, and can't sustain being a local product with their geography, eventually it will be no product.

Don't you know about all the potential?

If UAB had the same colors and logo but were in the Big 10, it would have said, "Big 10" and not "Conference USA."

The writer knew the look and merely compared the two.

Two? One. The average life of a startup football league is 2 years. And this one has Ollie "Everything I Touch Turns To S***" Luck running it, which should shorten it at least by half.

I might have my timelines wrong but didn't Ollie touch WVU into the Big 12? That doesn't seem ****ty....

If you want to be a field filler with a almost zero chance to ever win, it worked out great. Luck did not understand what USPAM sports were all about. Winning leagues it was supposed to win and fooling the rubes and hicks into thinking it was the same as what happened in major conferences. Now in an actual major conference, albeit the 5th out of the 5, and the only one that does not share TV money equally, it is hopeless outmatched.

In an alternate universe, USPAM has won at least 5 AAC titles, and the Spamites there make UCF fans look thoughtful.

Another SamC post... full of nonsense, incorrect statistics, and biased garble...

I guess it depends on how you look at it.
wvu gets the money and larger stage.
At the expense of being geographically impossible and while having money, are needing to put much more effort to compete...with seasons somewhat below expectations of the unreasonably high ones of their hilljack fanbase.
Furthermore, they'll have to do this pretty much every year because alone, they have nothing to offer.
TCU has tons of money and the Ft. Worth market. As do plenty of other schools...who could make up not having winning seasons with plenty else to offee.
For wvu, its win or nothing.

When they are making dozens of millions annually, which in turn has created new buildings for their colleges, new athletic facilities, upgrades, scholarships, etc.. Pumping that money into the college and the community has a huge effect on the university as well as the local economy. I know that Herd fans hate it (and that is understandable) but Morgantown is the fastest growing city in the state. You think dozens of millions a year being pumped into Morgantown from Big 12 money doesn't affect that? Hardly. I wouldn't say it's win or nothing. While I don't think WVU is going win the Big 12 any time soon, and I agree about their money market appeal (although the growth of Morgantown is starting to touch down as a Pittsburgh outlying suburb), the benefits of being in a P5 ALWAYS outweigh the alternative. The difference: A world class baseball stadium just by signing on the dotted line vs. not being able to build a stadium at all that has been wanted for 20 years.

Win or lose on the field, the lucrative nature of the Big 12 is obviously a huge win in the scheme of things for WVU, and the point is Oliver Luck had a huge hand in that.

They arent wrong... I would venture a majority of casual football fans couldnt tell you what Old Dominion, Charlotte, FAU, etc mascot is.

Also, UAB should sue over that dragon logo. Might make enough to keep the football team operational for another few years.
Nah, UAB wouldn't see that money as the money would just end up going to Saban for him to use to hire another "consultant" for the team.
