I’m lmao at this

Don't these people know that Marshall is supposed to win every game, because they are supposed to? Not that it is any accomplishment, because the teams we play are not good.

Don't they have that childish view? The view of a 12 year old?

neither will I , we agree on that. I have BP at #1 and Jim Donnan at #2. I put him at #3.
Even though he only stayed one year, and regretted leaving, I'd put Parrish in front of Doc. Although Stan laid an egg at K-State, which was putrid at the time.

at KSU? What about Ball U? didn't Stan go like 23 yrs between wins??

he was 9-51 at K -State. He was 6-19 at Ball state and 1-2 at Eastern Michigan. His best stint was here at Marshall.
He didn’t win 9 at KSU!! He won 2. Then it was 23 yrs before he won again at Ball u
ll in his three years as head coach of K-State. From 1986 to 1988 Parrish posted a 2–30–1 mark (.076 winning percentage). His last win at Kansas State came on October 26, 1986 over Kansas; afterward he went 0-26-1, including K-State
The only thing that helped him at MU was having like 2 WV conference games along with Morehead

Comparing coaches across eras is a fool errand anywhere, but considering the different levels of the sport vis other schools (most of which are in the same place they were relative to the football world 40 years ago) that MU is in over time is crazy. Was SP a nice coach of a team of players mostly with no other offers, playing in a rotten stadium in the hood, traveling mostly by bus, and for which buying a new box of Tide to wash the uniforms was a major expense? Yes. Was BP an all-time great coach, playing in the lowly MAC, which was really kind of Division I and 1/2 A? Of course.

But the recognition Doc is receiving at this level is certainly deserved. The childish superfans turned rotten notwithstanding.

lighten up Francis. I looked at his record wrong on sports reference. He only won 2 games at K-State .Second I am not advocating for him either.

Stan was here TWO years and those two seasons were very exciting because he not only talked a hopeful game he brought it to the field. After Elwood and Randle his style of offense and attacking defense were just what the program needed. In my memory he was the first Marshall coach to heavily recruit Fla and Ga with the help of his dad who was a coach and scouted Fla for high school talent.
I knew Stan as much as a fan could because I don’t think he, and especially his wife, ever unpacked all of their bags. But at that moment in history he produced what Marshall needed, 6 wins in 84 and 7 in 85.

He laid an egg at his next two spots as well. He was great at Wabash before coming here, had one losing and one winning season here, and the pretty much sucked after he left.

Plenty more coaches I would place in the top 3 before John. I would give Cam Henderson some love and likely place him at #3.

You also have to put Jack Lengyel somewhere in the top 5, not based on wins, but what he means to the program, University, and community of Huntington.

That sums it up except Parrish had two winning seasons at MU. He had some really good years as an assistant and coordinator in college and the NFL which probably was his strength as a coach.

I was going by body of work while here at Marshall. The man gave us our first winning season since pre-crash. Against tall odds. That to me, ranks him above Doc alone. jmho
