Since they locked the other thread, now would anyone be surprised if we finished 5-7?

But, but, but, we took a POLL!!!!

And, and, and, raleighherdfan and stowers called me, and the rest of the football knowledgeable, bad names. Some even used their google machine to find 15 year old memes and posted those.

And there was so much in-depth analysis, like "not", "is not either", "you are a loser", and "dumb".

Now it is finally evident to everyone, except stowers who would cheerlead for a steaming pile if someone painted "Marshall" on its container, what those of us who get it knew back in early September.

This is a bad football team.

That having been finally made clear to everyone, with the one sad childlike exception, it is time to move onto the next step. The question that must be answered.

- Do we fire Huff tomorrow morning?

- If not, do we fire Huff at the end of the season?

- Or do we let him by with just the standard letting go of his assistants and a "short leash" comment or two?

- Who can we get?

- Is his name Richard Allan Rodriquez?

The very last thing MU can afford is a coach who was using us as a stepping stone to greater things, neither failing hard enough to get fired, nor succeeding enough to move up, and thus we are stuck with some guy who doesn't want to be here and cannot get out.

This is why, IMHO, MU must take the initiative and do the right thing, no matter what the chattering idiots at ESPN and in the sociology department faculty lounge say and do it.

Fire Charles Huff.

Perkman advocated for Rich Rod in 2021.

I'm just sad that this is where we are...But there is no doubt....the team is toothless. ZERO playmakers on offense outside of Ali. The QB we have trotted out there to start cannot throw down field, at all. The playcalling, is either horrendous BECAUSE they know how limited they are....OR it's just horrendous. In EITHER event, that falls on a head coach who hired the coordinators AND has failed in three years to recruit a QB and WRs who can threaten anyone. The D has regressed. We miss Lance, but he left enough talent in the cupboard to not see the continual gashing of the D week in and out. The whole thing... a mess.
The bright spots are the high profile wins. And, I love the marquee wins, but that makes the letdowns feel that much worse. They are the type of wins that help propel a program forwards but not if you lay eggs immediately after every, single, time.

I see 5-7 as a possibility, but 6-6 more likely. This is like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
You realize we need to find 2 more wins, right? Which other game do you think this team can beat?

Winning in Boone is rare for most teams. This season they are super beatable; the problem is we won’t score enough to keep up.
Ga So - Their coach & his assistants are touch downs better at game prep than ours. They beat us like a drum @home.
USA - on the road. If Pennington is starting, we might have a punchers chance.
aStAte - should be able to win, but they currently have the same record we do; they aren’t going to lay down just because it’s our senior day. 50/50
End up 5/7? Likely

I’m afraid the portal will be full of players jumping off the sinking ship. Which might not be bad as those same players are the reason the ship is sinking.

5-7. Beat Ark St. and call it a year. Huff is back in '24, no staff changes are made, unless they leave on their own.
Dec. 2024, Huff is fired and new search starts.

I pitched a very similar scenario to my group Saturday night as our ass kicking was winding down.

Finish 5-7, Huff makes one staff change to appease his supervisors in the Shewey (probably a coordinator/special teams coach) and comes back next year.

Next year if we dont make a drastic improvement Huff is out and we are back to the drawing board.

I think it's both. The staff knows Fancher is very limited as a passer and Trickett has no idea how to use him. A guy that's never called plays and hasn't even been a coach very long.

You can see this by how many times we've gotten into the RZ and refused to take a shot. It happened against ODU and VT when we got inside the 20 and refused to be aggressive to put the games away and you saw it after the recovered fumble this week.

The staff trusts the foot of their inconsistent kicker over the arm of their QB.

If we're under .500 by the time Ark State comes to town the team will most likely already be mailing it in.

My understanding is that the final year on Huff's contract is from February 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025, and we would only need to prorate the unpaid portion of his salary at the time of termination. We'd obviously have to terminate before January 31, 2025, but assuming it is at the end (or near the end) of the 2024 season, it won't be a significant amount.

It's been a long time since I felt like a MU coach "needed" a win... Huff "needs" a win this week. App is the second worst team left on our schedule. If we are going to make a bowl game it's just about a must-win. Another loss, especially a bad loss, and the current hot seat will reach full on sauté.

I dont think there is any way he gets let go after this season as some have suggested... But another midling, or worse, year next year and it's probably lights out.

I said before the season our floor was 4-8 and our ceiling was 9-3. Sadly we're trending toward 4-8 in a hurry.

I dont think there is anyone in the Shewey building or any other building, that really care what he does record wise.

Maybe not this year... But once ticket sales and giving drop (which they do when the team is bad) the folks in the Shewey are forced to notice... Marshall isn't in position to have 3-4 bad years (see the Snyder era) with no repercussions.

If we lose to App this week, see what attendance looks like for the last two home games. It won't be pretty.
