Single payer cost

Come on, that's only about $40,000 per family, or about 80% of average household income. What's not to love?

I don't know what is more surprising: passing off a Koch study as legit, or linking to an article written by a filthy Mexican. BUILD THAT WALL.
And there it is. You do know that this study is in line with other studies that have examined the cost right. Hell Bernie hasn’t even run a cost analysis because he knows it will be in the 30 trillion dollar range

Sounds like to me they just slid the numbers from total combined public and private and made them all public, because we already spend $3.5 trillion total a year on health care. How about all the studies that show every other nation spends less per person, even nations with combined systems like Germany? How about we figure out how to get where Germany is?

Well, you can spend less when, like the UK, you just tell children "Tough crap, you're going to die and you can't go anywhere else for treatment". You can spend less when you have an 18 month wait for major surgery. You can spend less when you rely on other countries to develop new techniques and medicines and don't do hardly any of your own R&D. Yep, lots of ways to cut cost.

How about all the studies that show every other nation spends less per person,

Of course they “spend less”.

How about you wait 6 months to a year the next time you need that heart cath performed....you (just like their Govt) will spend less too.

Bernie is a career politician like the rest of the worthless pieces of shit. He's been on the dole his whole life in some form or fashion.

Medicare needs to negotiate drug prices. We pay way more for the same chemo drugs than they do in Canada and there's no really good reason for that. It's a backwards subsidy to Canada. The drug companies obviously need revenue to support R and D, but the U.S. tax payers should not fit the bill for this at a higher percentage per capita than Canada.

Good post sir!

Insurance companies control reimbursement costs, procedure costs, allowables, etc.

Please provide a citation of a 6 month wait for emergency heart procedures in Germany (simply because I mentioned Germany). If you can't do so, STFU.

I haven’t researched Germany’s system enough to have an informed opinion but I’ve often said there has to be some sort of hybrid system that we could try. Maybe where the govt provides very basic catastrophic coverage/primary care and then you can buy/employee provide supplemental coverage for everything else

nothing more than another step to a socialistic government. next, free college education. free child care. free hand jobs.

i love watching these brain-dead dimwhits reactions when they're asked how all of this free shit is to be paid for. shit you not, saw an interview with some of these morons the other day, went about like the following:

reporter: how will all this free stuff be paid for.

"well, the government."

how will the government pay for it, taxes?

"yeah, some of it from taxes, but not all of it. we don't need to raise taxes."

how about that portion not paid from taxes, how will that cost be covered?

"well, uhhhh, by the government."

you do realize the government is funded by taxes, right?

millennial develops blank stare with a what the fvck just happened look

It's as if none of the people clamoring for government-run single-payer have ever been to a DMV or Post Office. Do you know why the lines are so long, the customer service is so bad and the facilities are antiquated and run-down?

DMV here is in a nice facility, and the service is top notch. Maybe WV is so bad because the employees are Mingo County inbreds.

Meanwhile, you ever deal with customer service at Walmart, that Temple of capitalism? And I don't mean your wife servicing you.

Right, it's just in WV where the DMV has earned a national reputation of having the worst service in the world.

Customer service at Walmart is fantastic. Do you really need someone to help you select toothpaste or laundry detergent? Put them in your cart, go to self-checkout and you're in-and-out in less than 10 minutes.

The VA hospital system. Good Lord, we can't event take care of veterans.

ahhh, you're talking to a lib who hasn't figured out he's a lib. he wants everything done for him, everything paid for, for him. put his shit in his own cart and go through the self checkout with nobody to hold his hand and do it for him?

Oh the humanity, waiting 12 hours at an ER.

That happens here

“At some emergency wards, patients wait more than 12 hours before they are tended to. Corridors are jammed with beds carrying frail and elderly patients waiting to be admitted to hospital wards. Outpatient appointments were canceled to free up staff members, and by Wednesday morning hospitals had been ordered to postpone nonurgent surgeries until the end of the month.”

Not exactly...like here...moron

Is somebody in this thread really claiming that Walmart has good customer service? If you try going to the customer service desk about anything, it's a solid 20 minute wait.

The best was when I had to sit and listen to the customer service rep at the store fight with customer service on their website. Apparently - and something Walmart store reps seem to not know - the Walmart website is entirely separate from Walmart stores. So if Walmart.com sends you the wrong television and you return it to a Walmart store, the store can only giving you a $300 gift card instead of refunding your $515 purchase because the store has the television for a far cheaper price than the website . . . even if you have the receipt showing what you paid Walmart for it.

If you go onto the Walmart website and find a product you like, the website claims to show what local stores have it in stock if you want to go to the particular store and pick it up. When you go to the store, where the website claims there are 6 of a particular product, the store may not have it. Why? Because they operate independently and really aren't connected or have access to inventory of each store at all.

The lines at USPS aren't any longer than customer service at Walmart, and the USPS employees are extremely helpful and are able to resolve what needs to be done.

Thanks Doc, but I think I'll wait till Rifle chimes in to get expert info.

He took the MCAT, you know.

Walmart will take damn near anything back. Great customer service.

What do you need help with at WalMart? Maybe a tv or a printer? Or a computer? You don't go there for technical help or to set up a sound system at home. YOu go to Walmart for every day items, convenience, and good prices.

That would be like going to Urgent Care to have a surgery. If you go to the pharmacy they have highly qualified people with their own counter.

He might agree. I may be wrong, but I think the dems typically have supported this stance in the past. I think republicans have been lagging here, though I think Trump has mentioned it.

I really don’t keep up with health policy , I’m too busy to take a deep dive. We can do better, but the VA system gives me little if any hope that 100% government run is better.

Probly should have saved yourself the time and purchased the television off of the guy you bought your cell phone from

Maybe you are out of touch like Trump and think we need ID for groceries.

Ever try to return something to Walmart? You better plan on waiting. And you will return something, because they have a habit of putting broken returns back on the shelf. And God help you if you order something online and pick it up at the store. I ordered a microwave cart from them, went to the store to pick it up, and no one was staffing the pick-up area. I watched at least a dozen "associates" walk right by, look and me, and keep walking. Finally a young African-American worker offered to help me, even though it wasn't his area. I guess white people are lazy. Anyway, Walmart sent me an online survey and I ripped them...I'll give them credit for the store manager calling me and asking what they could do better.

I must have different experiences WalMart is perhaps the easiest store to return anything to. Might have to wait in line for a few minutes, but that is expected. My only issue with WalMart has been with some of the characters that shop there.

me too. these guys must be assholes; workers probably see it in their eyes and make them wait just to fuhk with them. i've never had an issue . . . but, then again, i rarely shop there and even more rarely need to return anything. times i have had to, though, have been no issues, item returned, cash/credit back, out the door in under 5 mins.

out the door in under 5 mins.

Your Walmart serves a town of like 200.

If looking like something other than white trash makes me look like an asshole, so be it.

And you both are right, you can return anything there. You could return pressurized fart air in a TV box and they would take it. That's a big part of why Walmart sucks, they put broken shit back out on the shelves. Buying computer accessories there is 50-50 the shit works. And if it doesn't work, it is always an obviously opened and returned package...but then all the packages have been opened, because it's Walmart and people return shit so they can pay their electric bill.

But hey, yea Capitalism and Billionaires!

Walmart is a low cost store that is convenient. If you want high end appliances or electronics go to a specialty store or Best Buy. I have bought printers and accessories there and never had an issue. Wal Mart is what it is. You have to realize that going into it. They have a little bit of everything at low prices.
