Is there like an unwritten rule that when the fans get into the game that they have to immediately blare the videoboard and drown out the fans?

Video Board has two functions..........sell sponsorships and enhance the GameDay atmosphere.
I'd heartily suggest you direct comments (good and bad) to the Athletic Department administration, they want to make the experience as good as possible and they don't have all the answers...... they need and I'm sure appreciate the feedback

That was my one complaint and really, the only drawback from yesterday.

The videoboard would blare music during "We are..." chant, and no, there wasnt advertising, it was music they would routinely play just because.
The band, the cheerleaders, and the videoboard need to have a meeting and be time specific like a schedule.
"We are..." chant should take priority...if music is playing, turn it down.

On a side note...after each win, the band should play the 20th Century Fox theme, just because, lol.

I don't know about you people, but as a football fan, I love watching an Instagram slideshow. Replays, stats, scores from around the country, all that distracts me from what brings me out to the stadium: social media and advertising.

Oh, and that team entrance has been a dumpster fire for years, but this year they used a dumpster from behind an Indian restaurant and a daycare.

From the minute i entered the the Joan, I was overwhelmed by the too loud video board playing music that no one over 25 could enjoy and ear-splitting to boot.

But I thought that would go away when the game started, but no way, Jose! Not only was the board playing at every pause in the action, it was screeching something when the next play, be-it kickoff or scrimmage, right up to and some times after the play began. The Marshall band was almost shut down by the aggressive scoreboard operators and the Purdue pep-band was drowned out.

I understand that we have to sell commercials, and that is OK, if the sound is turned down, but all this idiotic screeching that went with the boorish pictures of fans aping at the camera is not appreciated.

When I get the word that the the scoreboard problem is resolved, I will again make the long trip to Huntington to watch Herd football live. Until then , its TV for me, because the game is the important thing happening - not someone's twisted concept of entertainment.

So you won't go to another game because you don't like the music and pictures played by the scoreboard? That's.... Interesting

Don't even get me started! I videotaped the cheerleaders trying to start "We Are Marshall" then the scoreboard person started blaring music. He/ she had no sense of timing. The PA system is too loud. It is literally an assault on your ears. The music is better this year but still between one year and ten years behind. Pit Bull has a new song and it's is not: Fireball! The coordination still sucks. However is in charge should be fired! At one point I had to start "We Are Marshall" during a timeout before the obnoxious advertising commercials started. BTW, the reason we did not do the Thunder Clap was because it was sacrificed for....advertising.

Lol can we dind anything else to complain about? I mean if we watch games at home guess what is played during halftime and time outs? Advertising! Lol i actually told my wife i thought the pictures were a good idea bc it gets our name out even more because it encourages people to take pictures and use hashtags that are marshall related. That way if someone not familiar with us our what a typical gameday atmosphere is like they can click on the hashtag and see tons of other people using that same marshall hashtag having a blast and it just might get a few more people out to the game. But hey we should still be in the mac, dont stand during the game, discourage social media use and anything not approved by our panel here on another form of social media.

The commercials, both audio and video, are scripted in advance of the game. IMG bought the board and sound system and they control it. As Dan suggested, if you have comments and suggestions, address them with Mike. He in turn, pending the contract, can negotiate the changes with IMG

Even "Thunderstruck" was relegated to the pre song while the "Jungle" is now our new intro song! That is another year old song. It was WVU's intro song...last year. No one in charge knows or understands basic coordination of programming during the game. Blame IMG ( I hear they are selling or dissolving this division) but the control is with the Athletic department. Fire the scoreboard person who must be between 65 and 70 years old, that could only explain the tired music. We even hijacked Wisconsin's "Jump Around" late in the game. It costs nothing to put thought into this abject failure of game experience.

IMG has the contract at Va. Tech and WVU and all the cheerleading, scoreboard, band(s), and first down cheers are coordinated perfectly at their games. Never a competition between fans, cheerleaders, scoreboard and band. And IT IS TOO DAMN LOUD!

It's been this way for years. I'd be surprised if it ever changes. It's the little things that people notice. Details are key in operations this big.

Its like a Chinese fire drill. Cheerleaders start a cheer, video board blares some incoherent music, PA guy starts to say something.

The damn band hardly played at all. Stop the insanity! Is it too much for everyone to meet before the year and plan this stuff. Good Lord.

This thread would be a total success if someone included rants about "rusting urinals".

Cool.

Hey, the game was great. We played well.

On the business side, without (much) discounting and without (all that many) visitor's fans, we sold out. That is something we never have done before. Never. That is great. I want to get to the level where we sell out every time the door opens.

MH has spent some money. The seats were cleaned and the numbers on the stairs were repainted. Now, with a full crowd, we need some upgrades. Yeah, the restrooms need gutted and redone. There really is not enough room under the stands and not enough concessions. Really, I don't see why we don't just put the area between the IPF and the stadium as inside the ticketed area on that side and use that space for more concessions.

This^^^ I understand the advertisements I really do.. however even the Toy would get the We Are started on the mic and I must admit think that his 2nd half speech did wonder for the team, however it started up and then he proceeded to interrupt what he just started..SMH

One last thing about this whole thread...

They should time it so the chant isn't already dying out before the game goes live again.

A few TV timeouts, which take upwards of 5 minutes, were completely used for the "We are..." chant.
Why not do it somewhere halfway? There's gotta be a set amount of TV timeouts and time at which they can run...why not just go in halfway there, start it up, so its still very strong on TV?
