Chase Hancock runs sprints at practice Monday.
HUNTINGTON — Clint Van Horn remembers the first time he knew Chase Hancock could play.
The big lineman was a senior at Beckley’s Woodrow Wilson High and Hancock was a freshman safety. Generally, that school is large enough and the team is good enough to where freshmen aren’t needed.
“He was probably the only freshman who played, just because he was so hard-nosed, aggressive, and he was fearless,” Van Horn said. “Not many freshmen play, and not many freshmen play as much as he did.”
Fast-forward five seasons to Marshall’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium, where the Thundering Herd is preparing for the 2015 season. Again, Van Horn is a senior and Hancock a freshman (both have redshirted a year)...
